"Charlotte, get up!" I half hear as I lazily open my eyes.
I yawn and roll over, refusing to listen to my mom's screams as she tries to wake me up.
"Charlotte Louise Joseph, get up right now!" My mom yells as she flings my door open so fast it rattles on its hinges.
"What do you want?" I mumble, starting to crawl out of bed.
"Today is a very important day. You need to get ready." She says, before walking out when she knows I won't crawl back into bed.
Graduation. The day I have looked forward to for the past year. Yet somehow, I was scared for it to finally come. It meant the time that I would spend with my brother, Tyler, was coming to an end.
Tyler was my twin, but I have always called him my older brother, and not just because he was born eight minutes before me. He has always been the one that looks out for me, even when nobody else seems to care that I exist.
I get dressed in a royal blue t-shirt and light denim shorts, sporting my school colors for the very last time. Afterwards, I head towards the bathroom to brush my teeth before breakfast, only to be greeted by a closed door.
"Tyler, I need to use the bathroom!" I yell, banging on the door.
"Sorry lil sis. It's occupado at the moment." Tyler chuckles, before he flushes the toilet. I hear the running water of him washing his hands before he opens the door.
"Finally" I say, pushing past him. He puts his arm across the doorway to stop me from entering.
"You can't even say hello to your favorite brother?" He says, looking down at me with a smile on his face.
"No" I say as I push his arm away and enter the bathroom, slamming the door shut.
Once I finish brushing my teeth, I walk out of the room, only to be stopped by Tyler.
"Mom made breakfast." Tyler says as I walk past him.
"Pancakes?" I ask, wanting to know if my favorite food was made.
He chuckles and nods his head. "Of course, you're Mom's favorite." He says while both of us head downstairs to eat.
"You're the one who's Mom's favorite. Mr. I got a full scholarship to Ohio State for basketball." I reply sarcastically.
"Can we not talk about that." Tyler says seriously as we reach the bottom of the stairs. He puts on a fake smile as he walks into the kitchen, leaving me baffled in the hallway.
