After I went back to the party, nothing really happened, except for a guy asking for a dance. Yes, even though I was near the refreshment table. Once I was on the dance floor, there was no going back.

After the dancing we had dinner, which only included nibbling on a salads, sipping wine and having a little of this and that, at least for the ladies. How I wish I was a guy so I could be stuffing my face with the roast chicken too.

Well, on the bright side, I was going back tomorrow. At least in NYU, no one judged you even if you were having an ultra large sandwich and cold coffee with ice-cream.

We soon left and were home by 11. Hmm, not bad. I could put in a decent 8 hours of sleep before heading off tomorrow. I had barely reached the staircase when mom called me.

I went to the dining room and saw both my parents sitting with tea in front of them.

"Yeah mom. You called?"

"Nicki, I know you have work tomorrow, but can you stay another day? Please?"

"I can't really miss work" Specially with the evidence I collected today. "Is it another party? Please tell me we don't have another party to attend."

"Ah, no. It's not a party, more like a dinner with a couple other families. The Christaulakis are having a dinner at their home tomorrow. Ariana will be there, along with other people your age." my dad spoke up.

"I don't know dad. It's difficult to cancel a whole day of class."

"Maybe you could call in sick. I'm pretty sure the university would understand."

Well, that's the point, mom. The university would understand, but I did not work there. However, I said nothing. There was silence and I realised they were still looking at me, pretty hopefully, might I add.

" Okay, I will come to the dinner, but I won't miss work. After work tomorrow, I'll come straight from Soho. Deal?"

"But, you'll have to drive so far, and back again. Are you sure you can't call in sick"

"Soho is not that far from Brooklyn, dad. And I'll be fine. I really have to go tomorrow. Oh and I might be able to drag in Lucas because he texted me he will be back by 2 tomorrow afternoon."

"Well, if you insist. As you are going tomorrow, you might as well get some sleep."

"Yes mom. And I'll be leaving at 8. I have my first class at 9:30. Goodnight"
"Sleep tight, sweetheart." That was mom.

"Don't let the bed bugs bite" My dad chuckled.

I grinned. This was our normal night routine.

I rushed to my room, changed, cleaned up, brushed my teeth and was under the covers in record time. Ah sleep, the next best thing after food.

The next morning when I went to breakfast, mom and dad were not there. Diana told me that they'll be down soon.

"I've made French toast for you, and you have to eat that bowl of fruits." she said.

I groaned. No fruit was worthy of my mouth when there was French toast to gulf down. But I couldn't say no. Diana was practically family. She'd been around ever since Lucas had been born. She'd come as his nanny, but had ended up staying with us. She was 55 now, with a sweet round face and her salt and pepper hair cut into a bob.

I was almost done with my breakfast when my parents came down.

"You don't have to leave early. It barely takes an hour from here to your place, and the speed at which you drive, I'm pretty sure you reach in half the time." my mom said.

My cheeks coloured up. Who told her? "Good morning to you too. And I don't speed, at all." I grumbled.

"Yeah yeah, and I'm a tomato. No wait, that's you right now" my dad chuckled.

I pouted while all three of them laughed, at my expense.

"Okay okay. By the way, what is the dress code for today?"

"Dress casually."

"So can I come in ripped jeans and sneakers?"

"No you can't, young lady. Wear one of your cocktail dresses. And no sneakers."

"I was just kidding mom." I grinned. "Would you look at the time, I got to rush now, uh I mean drive very very carefully. See you guys at 7. Bye"

I pecked dad on he cheek and hugged mom and Diana.

Let just say, I did not drive very, very carefully. 40 minutes later, I was in Xavier's office. In my two years here, the office had never changed. A desk near the wall opposite the door, in front of it four chairs for visitors, a coffee kiosk in the right corner of the room, on the left was a large book shelf and beside it two doors, leading to a bedroom and a gym, for times he stayed at office, and of course a Xavier who could be found near the kiosk or behind the desk. However, there was no Xavier in there today.

I called Stacey, his secretary. "Hey Stacey, do you know where Xavier is?"

"Good morning Tìa." Before you start wondering, that's my name at the firm. "Yeah he took the day off."

I groaned. "Okay then, bye."

In two years of my work here, he had to stay back today? Hell, sometimes I'd seen him working here on Sundays too. Well, there goes nothing. I might as well go and work on Mrs. Jackson's case.

I left early at around 4, since there was not much to do, and decided to hit the gym.

An hour later, I was at my penthouse getting ready for the dinner. I'd already called Luke and told him that he would have to pick me up at 6. No way was I going for this alone. I'd opted for a full sleeved red dress which hugged my body uptil my waist and then flared out, ending a couple inches above my knees. I put in back hoops and black boots, with my hair in a half top knot.

Well decent enough. Soon the buzzer rang and the guard told me that Luke was waiting for me. I grabbed a granola bar and a chocolate milkshake to eat on the way so that I don't die out of starvation.

"Hey big bro. Got out of the party yesterday, I see." I fist bumped him, taking a sip of the milkshake.

"Well, at least it worked. You look good. How do you look good when you eat so much shit? Ness does not eat anything except for salad and still complains about being fat."

I shrugged. "Just drive, and try not to kill us."

"OH please, you love the speed."

I just stuck out my tongue at him while he shook with laughter.
