Sharon walked to the door, which Harper was now blocking.
"Uhh...can you move out of the way?"
"Sure. I'm not here to prevent nothing."
Harper stepped aside, revealing Darren with a ring in hand and one knee on the stone floor of the porch.
"I...what's..."
"I'll tell ya what. Sharon Shillson, will you marry me?"
Harper stood with a toothy smile on his face, already pulling out his phone and capturing the moment. He called Landon and told him the news.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Landon. It's Harper. Some pretty sweet things are going down right now."
"Like what?"
"Well...Darren is proposing to Sharon at this very moment."
"What? Where are you?"
"At my humble home in beautiful Chicago, Illinois."
"Ok. I will be right there."
"Yeah, see ya."
Harper captured the picture and posted it everywhere.
Landon arrived to a one-kneed Darren in front of a trembling Sharon and a wide-grinned Harper.
"I'm dreaming, right?"
"Want me to pinch you, Landon?"
"You might as well. I don't believe any of this."
"Nor do I. But it's happening."
Sharon finally gave an answer, sobbing as she spoke.
"Y-yes, Darren. I will marry you."
Darren slid the ring onto Sharon's fourth finger and they hugged each other as if they would never see each other again.
"Well, I'm marrying you. May as well sing a song to you."
"Sure, dude."
"Hey, Harper? Can I get a guitar?"
"Sure. Let me go get it."
Harper came back out with a fresh acoustic guitar in his arms. He handed it to Darren and he started singing.
I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes, but it's home to me and I walk alone
I walk this empty street on the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps and I'm the only one and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone, I walk alone, I walk a
My shadow's the only one who walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Til then I walk alone
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
I'm walking down the line that divides me somewhere in my mind
On the borderline of the edge and where I walk alone
Read between the lines, what's fricked up when everything's alright
Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone, I walk alone, I walk a
My shadow's the only one who walks behind me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Til then I walk alone
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
I walk alone, I walk a
I walk this empty street on the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps and it's only me and I walk alone
My shadow's the only one who walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Til then I walk alone
"And that's it. But I can tell ya, you're the one who I wish would have found me. And you did. I will never walk alone again, let alone on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams."
"Wow. That's deep, bro."
"Thanks. I just picked up that clever song lyric charm."
"I believe you learned that from me."
And Harper invited everyone in for a small party, for this was great.
