Kaycee was on her way to the grocery section. She hated shopping, that wasn't a secret. But she knew she had to for Christmas. Her friends were coming over to her apartment in New York tonight and needed to be prepared. Bailey and Tahani, two of her friends, were also helping out. Bailey with the decorations, Tahani with the cooking, and Kaycee buying anything that was needed. She took a cart and started from the baking aisle. She had her list with her in case she would forget anything. She placed the eggs and cocoa powder in her cart before remembering a joke her ex boyfriend made about a year ago.
"Gabe stop!" She laughed with her hand on her stomach. "Your puns are terrible"
"Really?" Gabe grinned wider. "I guess being with you makes me coco....a"
"Oh my gosh" Kaycee muttered, putting a hand on her head. She hated her boyfriend's lame jokes but they make her smile anyway.
He broke an egg and threw it in the bowl. "Sorry, I crack myself up sometimes"
She admits that her memories with Gabe affected her. Their break up was caused by them barely seeing each other. They were basically living separate lives due to their busy jobs. Because of this, stress kept building up and they fought, bigger than any other fights they had before. She didn't want to see anyone at all during the first few days of their break up. But she knows everything happens for a reason.
The happy memory replayed in her mind, despite the turn of events. Nevertheless, it made her smile.
She continued shopping for a while before she heard her phone ring. She removed her phone from her bag. Kaycee looked at the screen and the caller ID showed Tahani.
"Yes?" Kaycee answered, her eyes focused on the pasta section. Choosing whether to buy the white sauce or the red. Kaycee knew it would take her a while. She was the worst when it comes to making decisions.
"Hey Kayc!" Tahani greeted, a little too chirpy.
Kaycee's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "What is it T?"
Her friend on the other line laughed sheepishly. "Whatever do you mean, Kaycee?"
Kaycee sighed. Times like these made her question on why she even bothers to try and hide it. "What do you need Tahani?"
"Well...." Her friend's voice trailed off. "You know about last Friday, right?
Kaycee replied a 'yes'. Tahani and Bailey went to a hip hop class last Friday just for fun. They invited Kaycee, but she was too busy. She did miss dancing though. All three girls were hip hop dancers back then and enjoyed their hobby while it lasted. Eventually, they had to think of what careers they wanted to have for the future and stopped dance. It was sad, but it was reality.
"So, um. We danced a full out routine to a Nicki Minaj song and it was really-"
"Tahani" Kaycee said, placing a few seasonings in her cart. Tahani was usually like this, rambling before telling someone the truth.
"Sorry" She apologized. "Anyway, we see these three cute guys who killed the routine talking to us. AndIinvitedthemfordinnertonight."
Kaycee stopped her steps. "You did what?"
"Yeah I did.." Tahani laughed sheepishly.
"Tahani, did you seriously invite three strangers to our Christmas dinner?" Kaycee asked, still flabbergasted with the news.
"Well- I, you know. I just- I thought it would be a good idea"
Kaycee pushed her cart to the next aisle. "Yeah because you totally-"
