The school day seemed longer than usual — to put it simply. Really, Mia was just counting down the hours until she could go home. Three more dreadful hours and her wish would be granted. Once she'd get home, she was going to lock the front door behind her and not answer it once. Her parents were going to stay home tonight so at least that provided her with some sort of security. Two protectors, two killers. Mia was the in between. Ha! She was the victim. The damsel in distress.

The whole situation had just become hilarious to her. Thinking of how her life panned out, and what it was before, made her cackle hysterically. Maybe it was from the shock or trauma, or maybe she was simply going mad. Most likely, Mia ticked all of the boxes.

She was reapplying her NARS lipstick on for the third time. Not because it was fading off so often, actually, the product seemed to remain solid and unmoving on her lips. Mia just had nothing to do with her hands. Her mind was constantly thinking, constantly making her so aware of her surroundings, that her outer body just wasn't reacting. She kept becoming still, wide-eyed like she wasn't there. She didn't want to look crazy, not in a whole class of people. So, peering into her pocket mirror, she added another layer onto her lips. If anything, to the world, she looked more vain than crazy.

She knew why her paranoia was maximized. She walked into Lit with linked arms with Beverley, swooped in like a breeze, and faced Renée's judgemental eyes. Renée saw it for what it was; she took it and she believed it whereas Matias was still questioning. That face ... the shock in his eyes; the way his lower lip just dropped. Mia wondered if he was judging her, too, right now. She knew for a fact Renée was. It didn't help that Beverley kept sending her notes from the back of the class.

For the fourth time, a finger drummed against her spine. Beverley was doing this on purpose, of course, so Renée could see. A part of Mia couldn't help but think that a big reason for that was so she could show Renée she won the title of best friend back. She did it to Kiki and now she was doing it to Renée. Mia was only allowed to be hers; her little, lovable, best friend.

Discreetly, Mia peered over her shoulder. Leila Mamud blinked at her body. She was dressed as Bubbles from the Powerpuff girls. Her personality didn't match the character of her costume, but, honestly, who could blame her? It must be tiring playing Beverley's messenger. Nevertheless, Mia's hand met hers under her desk. She hoped her teacher would notice and send her to the principal's office, she really hoped.

        But he didn't.

The palm of her hand folded the wrinkled piece of paper tightly. A closed fist rested on her desk after. She could practically feel two pairs of eyes burning into her skull, watching her every move. She wished Beverley would give her a break at least during class; to give her some space and a chance to rejuvenate.
