Don't play with that you'll go blind." Grace said when they walked into the loft catching a new driver playing with the pink strands at the end of her braid seemingly to move at their own accord. She only had her queue braided, to protect the mentioned pink strands, the rest a wavy mess around her round face. The standard issue braids all the AVATARs had, had been taken out at some point and not been braided back.

"It's just kind of freaky." The girl said in return but Grace just nodded and walked over to a few experienced drivers at the end of the loft playing cards. The girl, who Harry recognised as the girl from the airship who helped him with his air mask, just sighed, "Yep she hates me."

"Why's that?" Harry asked, unable to help himself. "Grace is just like that with all the newer drivers. She thinks we're too inexperienced to be here until you've proven yourself worthy. I mean she has been here over twenty years, it's no wonder."

"You think so?" The girl tilted her head, reminding him of his godfather Sirius with her hair being all over the place, before she shook her head looking at the plain green blanket across her lap. "I guess it has only been a few days, that makes sense I guess," Her hands were playing nervously with the edge of the blanket.

"I know so." Harry sat next to her on the AVATAR sized bed, causing the other driver to look at him, "Somehow I've already proved myself to her; it's why she's not so cold towards me."

"Oh." She looked down again, fidgeting with her long, blue fingers for a moment instead of the blanket then, "um, could you braid my hair? I know it's strange to ask but my Mom usually does it and she's not here so... could you? I don't know how and the standard issue one started to hurt my head so I took them out." The driver asked, looking both homesick and lost at the same time.

"Sure! I used to braid my sister's hair all the time. But... It's been a while." Harry told her, looking down. Harry's sister in all but blood Luna Lovegood, she and a few magical orphans were shot by magic hunters all these years ago. She was old by then, about 76 if Harry remembered right. The last time he saw her alive was the week before his birthday when she stayed and they laid around all day. Just them two, she was the last of Harry's friends still alive by then too.

"Are you okay?" Harry looked back at the driver and nodded, "Yeah I'm fine."

"But you're crying?" He was? Harry raised a hand to his face to find the salty wetness of tears streaming down his face.

"Oh. Well it's just that the memory of my sister is happy but sad at the same time. She was caught in gun fire on her way home. The last time I saw her was the week before my birthday. So yes I'd love to braid your hair, it brings back such fond memories." Harry chuckled wetly, wiping away the stray tears that had escaped.

The driver smiled, "Good. That almost makes me useful." She giggled for a bit as Harry got to work braiding her hair in small sections. "Oh my name's Niki Wolfe (Nik-ee) by the way. What's your name?"

My name's Hadrian Potter; but I prefer Harry if you don't mind." Harry tells her most of his focus on twisting the braids and looping them the way he wanted. "So you're one of the other young drivers going on the expedition tomorrow?"

"Yep! I'm so excited I could scream!" She whispered to him so nobody could hear as Harry finished up the braids in a spirally up-do. "There! All done. Your queue has to say the way it is so I just took the rest and somehow did this." Harry told her as he grabbed a small mirror from the bedside table to show her.

"Oh my goodness! It's wonderful, Harry. Thank you!" Niki jumped up squeezing Harry into a hug with her long arms. Niki also appeared to be taller than him by a good few inches too. 'Man I really am small even on a planet with giants.'
