I walked down the dark, crowded street- a homeless man ahead to my right had a whole cup full of money.
On my way toward him, avoiding eye contact, I reached into an unsuspecting man's pocket walking by. There wasn't a wallet but I did find 15 dollars and some change.
I was approaching the homeless man on the side of the street, slowing down a bit waiting for him to turn his back on me, for someone walking out of the shop he was seated in front of. I sped up a bit and casually walked past him. I swooped down to take the cup full of money and disappeared into the crowd with a smirk on my face.
I discreetly emptied the contents of the cup into my purse. A police officer grabbed my shoulder. Oops, I guess not discreetly enough.
I turned around to face him "Yes?" I said as innocently as I could.
"Don't play dumb girlie," He said strictly,"I saw you take that man's money."
"What?" I said trying to sound innocent and confused.
He stared at me suspiciously, "What is a girl your age doing out on the streets of New York City alone?"
"My apartment is right down there," I say trying to sound like a cute, innocent girl.
I pointed to a store, "I was just going to that store to buy a few things for my dad." I lied.
"Yea sure," the police officer said rolling his eyes, "Now what's your name and your parents phone number?" He said taking out a phone. I gave him the number.
"Julie Anderson." I said sounding confident. "I didn't do anything so I have no reason to be scared." I smirked a little but then forced myself back to an innocent smile.
Ha!
I have a list of numbers of parents that I found with an area code that is in New York and I tell police officers their daughters name.
I simply call the numbers and ask them to take a survey. I ask if they are parents and then I ask them what their child's first name is. It would be suspicious to ask for a last name so I make up one.
"Hello, I am Police officer Jordan. I think that you should know that your daughter, Julie is taking money from people on the streets." He paused. "Your daughter is right at home with you?" He paused a bit. "This must be a mistake, sorry." He hung up.
Shoot! Most the time kids were out doing stuff! Those numbers anyway...
The police officer stared at me angrily, "You're coming with me." He grabbed my arm, hard. I gave a small whimper for pity and he loosened his grip a little but still not enough for me to run away.
I could burn his hand a bit- but I think he'd freak out a little since I can't exactly control how much I burn.
I couldn't blow him up either, since 1) I don't have that much light left in me and I'm trying to save it for when I really need it. 2) It would cause a scene and I would be studied and tested on and all that jazz. I looked at the officer. I smirked.
He's nothing.
He led me to his car, keeping a tight grip on my arm and shoved me in the back seat.
A very short car ride later, we got out out the car and he led me to that apartment building I had lied about.
I have to get away.
I could bite him, or maybe I'll be able to burn him just a little. I closed my eyes for a second and focused on the arm the officer held. I heated up my arm, and smirked.
The officer reacted quickly, taking his hard grip off my arm cursing. I ran down the street weaving around people.
I looked back at the officer who's arm didn't look so well. He stared at me running away but he didn't chase after. I think I burnt him a little too much.
Oh well.
I approached the place where I happened to be staying at this week.
I smiled remembering his confused face and burnt arm. Do I feel bad or sorry that I burnt that man more than needed and I took that "poor man's" money? No. Of course not. He may have needed it but so do I.
My name is Constance, I am a dead star.
I harbored a solar system for billions of years. It held life until I grew and absorbed the life harboring planets.
Although looking 14, I am 1429 years dark.
Do stars have feelings? No. I've heard of some who develop them. But not me so far. Of course I can feel the pride of victory sometimes and stuff like that but I only pick pocket for food.
Although I may be a dead star, I chose the form of a human girl so I still need food to survive.
I'm not immortal, I just have a longer life span than regular humans. I will live as long as I did before I died. Which was a while...
I lived a long life as a star, I was a massive, glowing, and bright until the day I blew up.
Every day, I watch as technology progresses. Humans truly are brilliant, but I've haven't seen many planets.
Some of them aren't so smart though. They are polluting and destroying the Earth! Such wasteful people! Earth is a gift from the stars! They are lucky that the right gases swirled up from stars in order to make their planet even fit to hold life. And they just slowly destroy it?
I have no pity for these people. I feel nothing for them. They are nothing. The sun will grow and I'll be the only surviver. Filled with the power from the star they call 'the Sun'.
I smiled at the thought of being among the stars again.
