"Hi! What's your name?" Roman said, approaching a lonely looking boy wearing a school uniform, who was sitting on the curb.

The boy looked up at him. "Oh, uh...what's yours?" he said, avoiding Roman's question.

"I'm Roman!" Roman announced confidently, pointing his thumb at his chest.

The boy chuckled.

"So, what's yours then?" Roman asked him again.

"I, uh...I don't have a name," he replied.

Roman looked at him, shocked. "You don't have one?"

"Nope..." the boy said shyly.

"Why don't you have a name?"

"I'm an orphan..."

Roman looked at him. "Oh. I'm sorry..."

"It's fine. I live in the orphanage over there." He pointed at a white building with barely any windows that was nearby.

"No offense, but that place looks boring!" The overly-dramatic boy said.

The boy laughed again. "Yeah, it is really boring. That's why I snuck out."

Roman looked at the boy and gasped dramatically. "You snuck away?"

"Yeah, but don't tell anyone."

"I won't!" Roman said.

"Pinkie promise?" the boy asked, holding out his pinkie.

Roman hooked his pinkie to the other's with a grin on his face. "Pinkie promise!"

The two boys met up at that curb every night as soon as they could. They became the best of friends, since the orphan boy had never had friends before.

Roman had started calling his new friend "V". V asked why, and Roman told him that a V name would fit him. V kept that in mind.

Soon, V noticed that he had a fluttering feeling in his chest whenever he and Roman met up, but he interpreted this as excitement.

V found himself studying Roman's features. His hair had gotten a bit lighter than when they first met, and his skin tone a bit darker. That wasn't too surprising, considering how close they were to the beach. V was the type to get freckles instead of tanner, but it seemed that Roman was the opposite.

V observed as Roman dramatically described his day, not really listening. He smiled.

Roman stopped for a second and looked over. "V? V, are you listening?"

V snapped out of it. "Oh, uh, no, sorry..."

Roman put on a fake frustrated face. "Silly V!" he said, messing up the boy's hair.

"Hey!" V shouted, smiling again.

This was how most of their days together happen Until one day, it didn't happen at all.

V ran excitedly towards the usual spot, excited to tell Roman the good news. Today, he'd been interviewed and adopted by a nice couple. It'd been an interesting couple, too—he never knew that two girls could be married.
