For the past few days, I couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that all of this was actually happening. I had been staying at Keon's place and he had been the perfect gentleman, understanding I needed time. Javi had been supportive as she could but had to quickly get back to Elli and Tiana could only do so much with three kids, under three.

Right now, it felt like in a matter of four months my life had drastically taken a downward spiral. For a while things were starting to look up, but now they were more out of control than before. I had given up on trying to be the 'strong black woman' and had been crying until it felt like I couldn't cry anymore. Lucas was nowhere to be found and Paige kept calling me to the point I had to completely block her number. On top of all of that, we hadn't had any breaks in our 'case' and I had no clue who would break into my home.

Snapping me out of my thoughts I looked down at my phone to see Keon he texted.

Keon♥️:

I took a moment to reply back to him with a heart eye. Keon was truly a great father. The love and admiration he possessed for his daughter made me smile. Choosing to stay and not leave me all alone, he convinced his baby mother to let Kiari come stay here in Colorado for the rest of the summer. While I was here, I helped out with her as much as I can and she had taken an extreme liking to me. Not wanting to confuse her, Keon introduced me as his bestfriend.

Hm. 'Bestfriend'. I had Keon, this great man who was so loving, caring, and sweet who wanted to be with me and spoil me but I was still stuck on Lucas. God, why can't he just fucking call me? Why can't he just explain to me why I wasn't good enough, why he had to cheat and abuse me? Why couldn't he just get his shit together? I guess for the same reason I couldn't. The vibration of my phone caused me to look down and see it was my mother calling. I rolled my eyes and pressed my power button, silencing the vibration.

A couple of minutes later, the vibration started again.

"Yes, Ma?"
"Well hello to you too, Jeannie. Is that any way to answer your mother?"
"Ma, it's nothing against you. I'm just tired. I'm going through a lot right now."
"Tired from what, Ann? Hm? You don't have a job. I heard you quit working at that club or whatever it is. You need to get you a real job and stop lollygagging around."
I rolled my eyes to the ceiling. "If only it were that easy, mama. Everybody doesn't have the same support you had."
"And what is that supposed to mean? Me and your father don't support you? I swear, you girls are something else. One of you gets pregnant by the first loser she sees and the other finishes college and loses her damn mind. Speaking of Javi, how is she? I heard she left Elli with that man. Damn shame."
"Ma, Javi is fine. Elli is fine. I am fine. Is there anything else you wanted to know?"
"Yeah, as a matter of fact it is! Where is your boyfriend? I thought you guys were planning to come for the holidays. You haven't said anything else about it. It's not like you're just driving across the country. You're traveling across an ocean. Everything has to be in order."
I rolled my eyes. "Me and Lucas are broken up mom. I've told you this a million times."
"Don't get a smart lip with me. Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why'd you guys break up? Duh!"
