Prologue

Time stood over the ancient bridge. The wind getting stronger and the night colder, his careful gaze swept over the thick forest. Something was wrong, he could feel it.

He took one more step toward the center of the bridge and stopped. Under him, the tall trees formed a circle around a clearing. Even though he had walked countless Earths just like this one, something about the forest below always called out to him. He didn't know why but he made sure to visit, each time hoping he would finally know the answer. For a long time, he thought it was because as if time had stopped here, locking the enchanting view of the lush greenery forever. Perhaps, this was his doing but he would never admit to that. Knowing his lack of heart and a tad disastrous ways, he knew this place would be ruined by him.

Everything he touched, propelled into darkness.

The sky looked brighter during the night with starts looking down at him. But something was different tonight, they looked shameful. He blinked and suddenly the stars vanished. It was all dark now. The golden eyes of his lingered on the sky and he wondered, was his hands that much soaked in blood that his brothers and sisters had finally abandoned him? Gone like their creators.

A shift in the air brought his attention to the other side of the bridge. His shoulders straightened as he became the one and mighty God, Kronos, the ruler of Time and beyond.

The trees below swayed from side to side and his gaze hardened. Soon, as he predicted, his brothers and sisters emerged from the forest. Jumping up as graceful as the snow below their feet and landing on the wooden bridge. Their faces were stone cold, matching the dead aura of the winter around them. Or maybe it was his aura.

Their tense shoulders or glares did nothing to him, he could see their fear like an open book, swirling in them. The wind picked up and as he looked at their empty eyes. What a fool they had been. Unlike them, the glow in his ominous eyes was as bright as the flashes of lightning above.

He took a deep breath in, his lungs expanding with the satisfaction of reveling in their fear.

"Missed me?" He decided to break the ice, be the first one to speak. He knew his brothers and sisters were cowards. That's all they could ever be. His veins burned with vengeance but he kept his cool, they were already paying for everything they have done to him, and they would continue to do so.

A death promising smile appeared on his face.

They were no longer his family, they were his prey.

Hyperion, his closest brother, took a step towards him and raised his dropped gaze.

Their eyes locked and a loud thunder shook the ground, the bridge swaying from side to side yet the two Gods that faced each other stood still. Unmoving like statues.

"It's time for this war to end, brother." Another lightning struck.

The bright light shone on his little brother's white eyes for a split second. His voice carried no emotion but Kronos could see through the facade.

He might have had a soft spot for him, but Kronos knew their blood that bled gold meant nothing to him. Not anymore.

"You have killed your own. You have scorned countless galaxies. It burns everywhere you go, brother."

Kronos could see the sadness and worry slowly dimming his brother's light. Yet, he was determined.

Naive, that's what he was.

The golden dust in his eyes glinted as he looked from one sibling to another. They were all on the other side of the bridge, except Hyperion who was only meters away from him. Poor Hyperion, always the unknown victim.

He pursued his lips, they had long lives and their time was due. Immortality meant nothing when he was the God of Time. They, belonged to him.

"Go now, all of you. And I will spare you until you are foolish enough to cross me again."

Maybe he was merciful because of his little brother, or because he was in a good mood. Whatever the reason was, they deserved death more than anyone but they still kept him amused and busy. It would be a shame if things ended with their bones beneath his feet.

"Kronos," Hyperion started. "You've caused enough bloodshed."

"If you stop this right now, we will not harm you." His eyes glowed with desperation, almost pure white.

Kronos raised his eyebrows.

Taking another step towards the ticking bomb, Hyperion couldn't stop himself from giving his brother another chance. He simply wished Gaia and Uranus, their parents, to come back and fix the mess they had created. But those celestial beings were long gone and they were left with a greedy, monstrous God to lead them. No more, his siblings had said. No more.

Kronos chuckled, a sound so unexpected the Gods and Goddesses stiffened. They exchanged glances, suppressing their worries and standing their ground. His family was aware of the tremendous power he radiated but they were also aware of their numbers.

"Ah, I've missed how fun you were." He tantalized, smile turning into a sly smirk.

He raised his hands and out of nowhere appeared a golden glow. It was his essence, ready to get rid of their existence.

It seemed that the spokesperson was Hyperion. Pity, Kronos thought but he knew his other siblings were nothing but dirt beneath his feet. They were cowards, all of them were cowards.

Kronos took a step towards Hyperion and opened his arms wide, the glow followed suit and expanded. For the mortal eyes, this simple act would have been blinding and melting. For Gods, it meant something else.

In a flash, all the Gods and Goddesses disappeared. And Kronos suddenly unable to see them, deeply frowned.

"Where are you?" He bellowed, his rage drowning the brewing storm.

Did they think they could play him?

His breath quickened and the glow around him expanded. He wouldn't give them a merciful death. They didn't deserve it.

Before he could do anything, he felt the heat of a thousand sun on his eyes. Wincing from the searing pain, he bit down on his lip and closed them.

"Is this all you can do?" He yelled out again, aware that this was Hyperion's doing.

Damn him and his pet Sun's.

The wind howled and a shrill erupted from the celestials. It was loud enough to deafen Kronos, only for a split second but that was all they needed.

A moment of weakness, an opening.

He fell on what he thought to be the ground, hands no longer glowing. But it wasn't the ground for as soon as he tried to rise, he fell deeper and deeper.

His hands slipped each time he tried to hold on to something but his fingers slipped by everything.

It was because there was nothing, he was in the void now, which was the bridge between the godly worlds and the darkness.

And in that eternal moment of silence where everywhere was white, he could only feel the words of his brother.

"I'm sorry."
