A sigh left her lips, eyes closed and head tilted back.
The warm bath was really doing a number on her, easing her mind just as it was easing her tense body.
As soon as she was back in the safety of her room, she was met with a steaming bath waiting for her. Maybe the Gods did care about them because it was just what she needed after an eventful day.
A few candles decorated the bathroom and gave a comforting glow, one that matched with the white walls.
She sighed again, she didn't know how much time had passed but could feel the water getting colder.
Her mind that was quiet had started to awaken and she did not like it. She opened her eyes and sat up in the tub, wrapping her arms around her wet knees.
"Come on Mira... think."
There had to be an explanation about all of this. Perhaps she was stressed because of the war, that could explain her nightmares. And well, her nightmares made her wary and restless. So maybe, just maybe, she could have imagined the orb as well. After all, she was tired. And people saw crazy stuff when they were tired, right?
It wasn't unheard of. She just had to... relax.
"I'm okay," she mumbled to herself, eyes glancing at her wrinkled fingers. "Maybe not super okay but still not losing it okay."
Deciding she had relaxed enough, she stepped out of the tub. A shiver went down her spine as she was met with the coldness of the room.
Her hand reached toward the white towel in a hurry, not minding she was wetting the floor. Wrapping the soft towel around her body, she took one glance at the bathroom mirror.
Her muddy clothes laid next to her, staining the polished floors. But she did not mind.
The gray eyes that met her were slightly red with dark circles adorning them. She gulped and reached for the comb that stood next to the marble sink. She could simply choose to not see the fragile girl in front of her. So, she focused on untangling her wet locks. It wasn't too long before she was wincing from the rough knots. Thankfully, she managed to untangle them all and put down the comb. At least her hair was decent now.
She nodded and lightly slapped her cheeks. A red tint appeared.
"Better," she mumbled and left the bathroom.
She dried herself and walked to her wardrobe, changing into her shorts and tank top.
Taking a hair tie from her desk, she started braiding her wet hair. And once done, she blew on the tall candle that lightened her room. Another shiver went down her spine, she couldn't understand why her room would be so cold on a summer night.
Darkness settled into her bedroom.
She didn't like it but she swallowed down her discomfort. Had her curtains been open, at least some light from the moon would enter. But honestly? She was too tired to even lift a finger.
Let it be, she said.
What was the worse that could happen?
She tensed at the thought but quickly swatted it away. Settling into the warm covers of her bed, she sighed and closed her eyes.
"Please Gaia, let me have a peaceful sleep," she mumbled, yawning and rubbing her tired eyes.
If she existed, it would be a good time to let her know.
So, she closed her eyes and surrendered to the sweet call of sleep.
***
As the night ascended, it didn't take too much time for her to spiral down to darkness.
