❧ Return to the Beach ❧
"You're really acting like it's been centuries," Jimin teased as Taehyung pummeled through the halls of the beach home, the late morning sunlight scattered across the wood planks. As the youngest absorbed the salty smell of the ocean wafting into the home though the opened patio doors, Taehyung felt the excitement drum at every nerve.
"I feel like it has," he whispered breathlessly, gazing around the open living area as if it were his first time there. His eye scanned for any imperfections, any changes, but there were none.
His escape was just as he had left it two years ago. Perfect.
"We didn't do anything," Jin somehow read his mind, after noticing his calculating expression. "Because we knew you'd throw a fit."
Taehyung turned to the eldest two hauling the surfers' bags into the foyer. He felt Jimin rest a hand on his shoulder and turned to acknowledge his best friend.
"Isn't it nice to be here without parents?" The blond rolled out his neck and stepped away to lean against the marble kitchen countertop.
"They wanted a break from us," Hoseok laughed, dropping some bags of snacks on the counter. With all four of them going to university close to home, it was warranted for their parents to leave them to enjoy summers at the beach so they too could have some time alone from their children. "Don't get it twisted, Minie."
"Well," the shorter snorted, pushing off the counter and helping Jin separate their luggage by owner. "Win-win situation regardless."
"Agreed!" Taehyung grinned, eyes lazily wandering to the patio, the curtains brushed aside like shields retracting to reveal the beautiful view outside. The morning sun had left the warm tone of the waters to cool for the midday hours, light glittering like crystals at the edges of the waves.
The golden sand was a warm beige, a direct path from the back porch to the shoreline.
"Unpack first," Jin called out to his younger brother already advancing for the exit, "adventure out after!"
Taehyung sighed and slumped, spinning on his heel and stalking back to the elders, the three simply laughing at his antics.
"You have all month," Hoseok shoved him as he pulled the bag straps over his shoulder and shuffled over to the stairs leading to the bedrooms.
Taehyung dumped his bags on the bed, Jimin following into the shared room moments later with his. The younger carefully grabbed his hefty painting duffel from Jimin, who had carried for him. The bag was wonky with protruding edges of the canvases and supplies, but he opened it up on the bed.
Mr.Tuan and Mark had cleaned the home for them before they had arrived, a favor they insisted on doing every time they visited out of simply kindness.
"You brought your entire studio on vacation," Jimin groaned as Taehyung began emptying the large bag. "Is that a portable easel?"
"How else am I supposed to prop the canvases up, idiot?" Taehyung chided, Jimin scoffing but helping him anyways, expanding the easel stands and setting it up in the corner of the room by the balcony, on top of the dirtied sheet protecting the floor.
