Sometime after her latest episode, I crept into America's room. It was late at night, probably around three in the morning, actually, and my fiancée was still fast asleep. I approached the side of the bed and stroked her hair lightly. Even in sleep she looked worried, tired even.

I knew the wedding weighed on her, of course, but I knew her episodes and nightmares of late were even worse on her mind.

She was positive and stubborn and feisty as always, but a certain spark had been guttering lately.

It destroyed me that she was going through this. Seeing the terror and hopelessness on her face – I couldn't handle it. If there was any way that I could help her feel some joy, lighten the load a little, then I would do it in a heartbeat.

Which is why I was here.

I leaned down and kissed America lightly on the nose. She twitched a little, and when she didn't wake up, I started kissing her all over her face madly.

Stirring, her eyelashes fluttering, she began giggling.

"Maxon," she said sleepily, "What are you – wait!"

She popped up, and I barely dodged in time to avoid a – quite literal – head on collision, which America seemed oblivious to.

"Wait," she said again, looking almost fully awake now, "Isn't it our wedding day!?"

I just laughed and helped her stand. "Yes, it is, darling, just a bit earlier than everyone expected."

"What do you mean?" She asked confusedly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"Well," I explained, "Its about three in the morning, it's Wednesday the 23rd of May, and you're about to become Queen America Schreave."

She began smiling, though still looked absolutely perplexed.

"Okay... but the wedding is supposed to be at three PM today... and – but – "

I laughed at the face she was making and led her to her dressing room, where Lucy was already waiting, stifling a yawn.

"Good morning Lucy," America said faintly, "I'm getting married. Right now, actually."

Lucy murmured some words of encouragement or congratulations as I left the room. I was still wearing my clothes from the day before, having stayed up all night getting everything ready for the wedding, and so I headed back to my room to get into my official "husband-to-be" attire.
