Chapter Eight

Today's the day.

This morning the hospital discharged Asher after a week of beginning recovery for his leg. It's Wednesday and Asher's parent's flight is in two hours so tonight is the first night I'm working as his helper. Bethany has prepared me with every scenario that could happen so I should feel over prepared for this job.

However, I feel completely unprepared.

"Hey, you getting ready to head over?" Cas asks as she comes into my room and throws herself onto my bed.

I zip up the duffel bag I've packed and sigh heavily. "I'm all packed so I guess I'm ready to head over." I groan and flop onto the bed beside her. "This is crazy. I'm spending my entire break, in Florida, in a house with a guy I barely know and I'm not even sure likes me as a person, when I could be out swimming and enjoying this odd winter."

She laughs at me. "There's still the dance on Saturday, plus you can still go out and do stuff, you're not gonna have to stay there all the time."

"His mother has made it pretty obvious that I need to stay there all day, every day."

"Well, what if Ava, or Jacob, or someone else goes over to see him? Then you could have them help him for the time being."

I sigh and hop back up onto my feet. "I guess you're right. I should probably head over because I think his parents are leaving soon to catch their flight."

"Have fun! Their house is amazing and filled with stuff to do so I don't think you'll get bored very easily."

I stick my tongue out at her. "Don't miss me too much." And with that, I head outside and walk over to the Grey household, already insanely nervous for what I have to do.

"Teegan!" Bethany exclaims as she opens the large glass front door with black iron accents. She's dressed in white jeans, a light blue top with a deep neckline, and nude heels. Her hair is, of course, perfectly curled yet effortless.

I smile and step into the house, the marble floors beautiful and cooling. The entryway is wide with black hardwood stairs to the right and more hallway on the left. She begins to lead me down the hallway, passing a room with a grand piano in it, a closet, and a bathroom before entering into the kitchen. The kitchen is completely updated with all stainless steal appliances, dark wood cabinets, and granite countertops.

Bethany walks around the island to the sink. "Thank you so much again for doing this, I don't know what we would've done if it weren't for you."

"It's no problem at all, I'm happy to help," I assure as I shift the strap of my duffle from one shoulder to the other.

"Oh! Let me take you to the guest bedroom so you can set down your stuff."

She leads me to the hallway and goes to the right, past a massive laundry room, and to another set of dark wood stairs. We ascend them and the marble floor changes to a plush carpet.

"All of the bedrooms are on the top floor so it was a little frustrating getting Asher back up here." She passes two doors before opening the third. "This is your room for the time being."

It's a simple room with cream walls and crown molding. The bed is set on a dark wood frame and the comforter is pastel yellow with white pillows upon it. Light grey accent pillows take up half of the bed, but the entire thing looks like the most comfortable bed I've ever seen.

"This door here leads to the shared bathroom. You have your own sink and toilet but the shower in the middle is shared with the neighboring bedroom, which is Asher's."
