She falls back on the ground, her legs folding underneath her as her hand clutches the open wound on her side that stings - and it stings like nothing she's ever felt before.

His gaze still seemed focused on her, the crazed look in his beady eyes strained as she watches the light from behind them fade. His actions mirror hers as he slumps to the ground in defeat.

She doesn't need to hear the canon to know that he's dead. She doesn't need to see his corpse on the ground below her. She knows. He's became her seventh kill, something that will rest in her mind forever.

Gasping slightly as she presses too hard on her side, she can feel the warmth of the blood that covers her from head to toe. She's sitting in pools of it, the final bloodbath having been unparalleled and unseen previously. Seven other bodies lay in the small area around her, all as dead as the next.

And she knows it's sick, but she doesn't feel grief. She feels nothing but pure, sweet relief as she reminds herself that she is the last one left.

The atmosphere seems to change ever so slightly; it ripples around her as she faintly hears the noise of an approaching aircraft. She waits, knowing that the only thing standing between her and finally going home to her brothers is the announcement that crackles through the arena speakers and across all of Panem.
