Chap 10: Reminder

For the next few days, there wasn’t much change to Jungkook’s routine. It got the both of us (Jas and I) worried since he didn’t seem to care much about breakfast, which is the one of the most important meals for the day.

If you are wondering how Jasmine and I knew -- we usually arrive in school early. We would hang out somewhere in school, normally at secluded places before assembling for flag-raising, so we have the time do whatever we wanted.

(A/N: to clarify this is a common practice in school, at least over here.  We need to report at a certain time daily for the national anthem and sometimes there will be announcements or our school song. I guess we sort of follow the asian mindset so we value punctuality. Meaning: we would be punished if we are late. Hence people arrive on time and all, but for me i would arrive early as I would board the earlier bus --- just in case the bus breaks down I would still be able to reach school on time.)

But since we find out that Jungkook was there alone that day, we thought he might do it again. We decided to check it out the next day but this time, we made it a point to come earlier. Sure enough, Jungkook arrived early, making a turn to take the stairs after appearing at the gate. (We were spying and yes it is supposed to be creepy.)

I wondered why he would make so much effort to come to school early just to dance. How important was this to him to skip breakfast for it?

My mother used to comment how I wasn’t as ambitious as my brother -- in fact I lacked it. My brother was better than me in our studies, not because of talent, but more of hard work. No matter how hard I tried studying, I would give up little by little. Though I hadn’t completely given up, I kind of accepting that I wasn’t good enough.

Jungkook’s effort reminded me of my brother, so I had to admit I was jealous.

But I was more amazed than just being jealous -- because he could do something I couldn’t.

“Hey.”

Jungkook turned his head to look at me. I saw that he was taking a little break, so I took the chance and entered.

I held up a small plastic bag consisting of a bun and a drink, which I had bought along the way to school.

“You have ate anything yet, right?”

Jungkook shook his head. I sighed. Jungkook really needs someone to care for him. But I’m glad I could do something for him.

“Take it.” I said, extending my arm to give it to him.

He stared for a while. “Thank you,” Jungkook replied rather warily, his voice a little breathy from his practice.

I sat down on the floor nearer to the wall, on the same side with the door at the back. “I bought it,” I answered, replying to his unsaid question.

He looked surprised from my response, before becoming slightly stiff and expressionless.

I guessed right. He seemed like he was expecting the boy to be back, but the boy was someone he didn’t really want to see.

When I passed the lunch box to Jungkook the other day, Jungkook frowned. You could tell he was irritated, like he was reminded of something he wanted to ignore.

I just know it.

Because Jungkook was me.

Author’s note
Sorry for the wait! I was debating whether I should just update next week since I couldn’t finish the chapter on time. I was binge watching anime tbh ^^

My update will be slower from now on because I wanted quality over quantity, but I’m like unmotivated to write.

Hope you guys are coping well with work and school. Keep it up people!! It will be hard but a year will fly by pretty fast.

Till then ;) see you
