❄So sorry for the loooooooong delay its been a chaotic time but any way on to the story!🔥------------------------------------------
A peppy ringtone chimed on the coffee table in front of me."Em, can you answer that for me? I'm helping mom with the dishes." Rowan hollered at me over the running water. Picking up the phone, my eye twitched at the name. Sadie. The bully that tormented Rowan for years. I had felt bad for the girl when Rowan had told me about the kidnapping but was it really worth maintaining a relationship with her? With a shrug I accepted the call.
"Uh hey this is Rowan's phone, she's a little busy at the.." My voice faltered as the sobbing on the other line made my own throat throb. "Hey are you okay?"
"No... I... He..." Her choking sobs chopping her words.
"Please, take a breath and tell me what happened? Are you hurt?" I gripped the phone tightly, as she gasped a few times before a tired hiccupy sigh came out.
"I over heard my therapist tell my mom what I said during my session.. She said... He did something to me.. Something I don't remember. But i have to go to the hospital and have tests done." She sniffed as she tried to keep calm. My stomach gave a lurch and dropped.
"Are you okay? Is there anything I can do to help?" I heard myself trying to grasp the situation and console her at the same time. How was Rowan able to handle this all the time. It was incredible. Rowan came in with a smile that twisted into worry as she saw my face.
"I don't want to be alone."
"Hold on Rowan is here. Would you prefer I get her up to speed or would you rather you do it?"
"I'll do it. But.. Thanks. You must be Emberly. She's told me a lot about you." Sadie seemed glad for the momentary change in topic.
"Yeah... She's told me a lot about you too, Sadie... I'm sorry about what happened to you though. No one deserves that." Her silence made me feel awkward about what i said but I couldn't not be honest.
"I did." She whimpered. Shame flushed my cheeks.
"No, Sadie, I don't believe that and neither should you. We've all made bad choices in the past, but that doesn't mean we deserve to be tortured for it." I quickly handed over the phone to Rowan and she took over talking with Sadie. She put her on speakerphone and after Sadie calmed down again, told us more about what she over heard. By the end Rowan was squeezing my hand, trying to hold back tears.
"Sadie, why don't you come up here to visit after you go to the hospital. Maybe some time away would help. A change of scenery. Stay for a few weeks. Isn't spring break soon there?" Rowan offered with hope.
"You, know... Maybe i will. I'll talk to mom and call you when I-" we heard a clatter and heard the thumping of someone running away. The next sounds were not any better. Sadie was choking, coughing, and throwing up. I panicked and hung up before chucking the phone away from me.
Rowan stifled a panicked laugh before grabbing her phone and texting Sadie to check on her. As she did that I went to talk to Eira about what Sadie had told us. Fae or Human, what happened to Sadie was horrible to fathom.
Sadie's POV.
The florescent lights of the hospital room, whirred on above me as I waited for the nurse to come back with the results of the blood they had taken from me. 'More reliable.' The nurse had stated as she stabbed the needle i to the crook of my arm over and over before finding the vein. Mom was filling out some forms as I lay on the paper covered table with my untapped arm over my eyes. My stomach was in knots. Three months after and now I'm in a hospital getting tests done.
With a click the room's door opened and a doctor I'd talked to an hour ago came in. My mom stood up as i sat up.
"Doctor...." My mom warily eyed him as she took my hand and squeezed it. He looked tired, and grim. He shut the door behind him before sitting on a three wheeled stool. He didn't say a word as he wheeled himself in front of me and stared at me with such sad brown eyes.
"Sadie. I don't know how to say this but I'm truly sorry. This shouldn't be happening to you at such a young age." My mom started crying and squeezed my hand again.
"What are you talking about? What's wrong with me?!"
"Sadie.. My sweet baby... My little girl.." She sobbed into my shoulder. Between the doctor's lack of answer and my mom's hysteria, I snapped.
"Would someone just tell me what the fuck is happening with my body?!" Mom hiccuped as the doctor apologized again.
"You're right." He paused again looking at my chart. " Sadie, you're pregnant."
Rowan's POV
Sadie wouldn't answer the phone but did text back eventually that hospital went fine and yes she was coming to Montana. She would let me know more when she got in around 4pm tomorrow.
Mom, Emberly, and I got the guest room that was originally Matthias's room, he got his own apartment in the school like the other faculty, ready for Sadie to be staying in for a few weeks. Emberly did her usual color picking thing and redecorated the the rooms colors until she settled on a maroonish purple with gray accents.
We tried to make it as cozy as possible while mom and Sandra talked about what would help Sadie feel comfortable with whatever she had found out at the hospital. Mom was staying hush hush about it, pointing out if Sadie wants me to know she'll tell me when or if she's ready.
Emberly had tasked Lillie and Whither with a welcome sign for Sadie and lucky Whither was there as Lillie decided more than once 'it needed more glitter.' She put a stop to that rather spectacularly when she used a inky black tendril to chuck the glitter bottle as far out the window as she could, with out actually looking up from the lovely filigree designs she was carefully sketching out.
"Ro-ro, my love, Sandra just texted me to let me know Sadie will be landing in about an hour. While Matthias and I go pick her up do you think you can handle finishing up dinner while we're gone? Just take the lasagna out when the timer goes off and make a salad." Mom had gone into full hostess mode and had without magic cleaned the already clean house top to bottom.
"Of course, Mom. I hope Sadie is okay. I havent heard from her much since yesterday.." Mom winced before hugging me and heading out the door. Her reaction made me wary but I busied myself with making salad as she asked.
