I wouldn't leave the hospital last night, I mean I have nowhere to go, nowhere to be, no one to be with. They literally took my phone and called the first person that name's appeared on the screen, which happened to be missed calls and unanswered texts from Talen... Greaaat, really. So that's where I am, in Talen's apartment, where I can just drown myself in memories and have plenty of time to think since I've locked myself in his room while he slept on the floor next to his bed to make sure I was fine all night. Why couldn't I just sleep on the couch? I'm already pretty beat down mentally, seriously, I'm probably the definition of a total mess.
"Morning, beautiful," He said tiredly, finally waking from his deep sleep. He had messy bed hair, and drool coming down his chin.
"Morning, Talen, but um don't called me that. Okay? Thanks." I forced a sarcastic smile at the end and threw a pillow at his face.
"Well, why not? You really are and it's so typical for a beautiful girl not to think she is anything near what people say she is." He sat in front of me on his bed, by the looks of it, he seemed kinda annoyed that I didn't think I was beautiful.
"Because I simply just am not, it's so simple for guys to say a girl is what she isn't so why should we trust you? One second you think they're the best thing in the whole wide world and think she's oh-so-perfect, and the next she's a piece of garbage you're ready to get what you want and leave as soon as possible." Complaining comes naturally to me, I didn't need to work to get my opinion. I know what I think, I know what I want, and I'm not afraid to say it. "Really, I find it rather annoying that you all think you can judge if you like a girl on her beauty or popularity or reputation, even though you didn't say that I know all guys think it." I think I'm just rambling right now because he's staring at me with a wide smile, "Sorry," I laughed.
"It's fine," he came closer and held my hand, "You're right, it's unfair, but right now I am sitting before the most beautiful girl, and I am so lucky to do so." I looked down at our hands and nodded, I don't really feel like arguing right now.
It was awkwardly quiet for a good five minutes, "I should get going, I have to get to the hospital in like ten... Don't wanna be late."
It didn't take much to get ready, I just put my hair in a messy bun and wore a pair of jeans with some grey t-shirt I borrowed from Talen then brushed my teeth and headed for the door. He watched me the whole time, "Take a picture, it'll last longer buddy." I winked at him and walked out the door.
His apartment wasn't too far from the hospital, it's like a five minute walk. I started walking for about three minutes and I heard Talen yelling for me, I turned around, "What are you doing? I'm going to work."
He smiled, "Yeah, so am I. I guess we'll be working together." Wait, what? As far as I know, he wasn't working but I guess it does make sense since he needs to pay his apartment.
I looked at him expectantly, "Since when do you work at the hospital? And since when would you want to work with kids?" I thought working with children would have been his last choice, but I guess I'm wrong.
He rolled his eyes, "Oh please, I love hanging out with kids." I only just realized he had a big Australian accent. Hearing that made me remember the day he told me he had to leave, four years ago, remembering that day made me feel completely lost and weak. "You okay?"
Crap. I guess I looked kinda sad thinking about it and I needed something to distract ourselves about it. We arrived at the hospital, so I guess that would work? Yeah... "What?" Totally crushed that... Not really. Get it together, Terra. Wait, am I talking to myself? I only do that when I'm nervous, am I nervous? I'm such a moron.
He stopped walking in front of me, and turned to face me, "You okay? You seem sad." He looked at me worriedly, scanning my face for an answer.
I forced a smile, "Great, thanks. How 'bout you?"
He chuckled after my answer, "Good. Let's get to work."
"Race you to the door!" I yelled as I ran as fast as I could in direction for the main entrance. Just as I was about to step on the side walk in front of the doors, Talen picked me up spinning me around and put me down in front of him. We stared at each other, both out of breath, for about a minute. "We should, um, go... We'll be late."
He held my hand, still staring at me, "Alright."
