1 WEEK LATER

Maks

I drove up to the studio and walked in. Colorful lights were flashing everywhere and everyone was still rehearsing the opening number.

"Hey, Maks!" I hear a familiar voice. I turn around to see Jenna.

"Hi, Jenna." I reply in return.

"Why don't you ask Meryl to come down to watch sometime?" She asks. "We haven't seen her down here in a while."

"That's a good idea.... Well she's been kinda down lately. Doesn't really go anywhere." I reply. I've been worried about her.

"All the more reason for her to get out." Jenna flashes a smile. "Oh! And don't just watch, ask her what's wrong."

7 HOURS LATER

I come home after the show and walk into room 739 to find Meryl crying on the couch.

"What's wrong, baby?" I finally muster the courage to ask. I sit next to her on the couch and embrace her in a hug.

"Maks, there's something I haven't," She sniffles. "Told you. I haven't told anyone before.... And I'm afraid if I tell you," Sniffles again. "You won't want to be with me. I haven't told anone because I'm afraid of what they'll think of me."

"Mer, you know you can tell me ANYTHING." I tell her. "I won't judge you because you wanna know why? Because. I. Love. You."

She looks up at me with her big brown eyes and takes a deep breath.

"Alright." She starts and I hug her closer.

When she finishes her story, I am shocked. Keeping my promise not to judge her all I can say is:

"Wow."

"You hate me." She says and starts crying harder.

"NO! I'm not judging you with choices you've made in the past. It's your OWN personal choice." I say and kiss her forehead.

"I regret it." She says quietly. "I've regretted it everyday since.... I was just- scared.... It was my senior year and I needed to skate."

"Baby, I understand. And I'm not judging you in the least! I don't give a flying fig about high school for goodness sake! Is this what you've been moping about for the last week?"

"Yeah." She says and sniffles.

"Ok, Meryl. It's time I teach you a lesson!" I exclaim and stand up. I clear my throat and start my speech.

"You can't beat yourself up about what happened in the past. I remember on Lion King, remember that movie, right? Well anyways, Simba thought he killed his father. He ran away. Trying to run from his past. He thought he was a monster...so do you. The creepy monkey dude came to him and convinced him to come back. Do you know what he said?" I ask. Meryl looks at me expectingly. "Well, I forgot what he said."

So I popped in the movie and fastforwarded to the scene.

"Change is good." The monkey said to Simba.

"Yeah, but it's not easy.... I know what I have to do, but going back means I'll have to face my past. I've been running from it for so long." Simba responds. When I look over at Meryl she is studying the T.V. so hard, it's like her eyes are locked to the screen.

Suddenly, the creepy monkey hits Simba on the head with his stick.

"Ow! Jeez, what was that for?!" Simba cries.

"It doesn't matter! It's in the past!" The monkey exclaims and I see Meryl ball her fists together.

"Yeah, but it still hurts." Simba replies and I can almost feel Meryl's heart ache.

"Oh, yes. The past can hurt... but the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it!" The monkey tries to hit the lion in the head but he ducks.

"AH! You see! So what are you going to do?" The monkey chimes.

"First, I'm gonna take your stick!" He says and throws it.

"No no no! Not the stick!" The monkey yells. "Hey, where are you going?!"

"I'm going back!" Simba calls and runs home, while inspiring music plays.

When I look over at Meryl this time, she is smiling.

-

"Thank you." She whispers and now I start crying. "You've given me the strength to move on."

"I love you." I whisper in her ear.

"I love you too." She says and wipes away her tears of the past.

Lets be honest, The Lion King is amazing 😍👌
