A chunk of stone was dislodged from the wall of the cave as the hobgoblin struck at Priestess, who narrowly avoided the attack from the massive club wielding mass of flesh that was her attacker. A shard of stone sliced the flesh of her leg as she cowered on the ground. Her first quest, and everything had gone horribly. Priestess has joined a party consisting of Warrior, Fighter, and Wizard. They had taken up a goblin slaying quest that morning, and had departed to the cave in high spirits.
At first, it had seemed like the quest would be easy.
Oh, how they were wrong.
The deeper they ventured into the cave, the more the tension grew, as did their uneasiness. They began flinching at the smallest of sounds. A stray pebble skittered towards them from the dark. Warrior, who was leading, had stopped. He motioned with a hand gesture for the others to stay.
Warrior moved towards the darkness and extended the torch towards the shadows. The torch illuminated the face of a grisly, grinning, goblin. "AA-" Warrior screamed in terror as a large club came from the left out of the dark, and smashing his head to bits against the cave wall.
"W-WARRIOR!" Fighter screamed as the torch fell from the fingers of Warrior's corpse, and hit the ground. It rolled forward, towards the dark, illuminating the faces of the goblins hiding in the shadows. The most imposing was the figure of the hobgoblin with the large club that bore the blood splattered remains of Warrior's head on it.
The three remaining party members froze at the sheer number of goblins. Suddenly the hobgoblin roared, kicking the fight into action and spurring the other goblins on.
Wizard and Fighter formed a defense in front of Priestess and raised the their weapons, a magical staff and a pair of fists respectively. Fighter stepped forward to meet the first goblin and slammed it into a wall with her fist. In doing so, she left herself open. Another goblin leaped up and embedded a barbed axe in her shoulder. "AAGH!" Fighter cried out as she backpedalled.
"F-Fighter!" Priestess cried timidly. The goblin with the axe was blown away by a spell from Wizard. Several goblins came forth at once and charged Fighter. One goblin slammed its club into her kneecap, bringing her to a knee. Another goblin stabbed her in the thigh of her other leg. "HELP ME!" Fighter screamed out as the goblins toppled her over backwards and began tearing at her clothing. Wizard prepared to cast another spell but faltered as the hobgoblin stepped over Fighter and snatched at her. Wizard back stepped but bumped into Priestess, sending them both to the ground. Wizard swung her staff recklessly at the hobgoblin but it grabbed it effortlessly and snapped it like a twig. Behind it, the goblins were slashing at Fighter with knives whilst defiling her. Wizard watched her friend cry out for help she couldn't offer.
Wizard tore her eyes off the sight before standing and pulling Priestess up with her and dragging her away as they ran. "COME ON!" Wizard yelled as she dragged Priestess along with her. The horde of goblins chased after them, accompanied by the thundering stomps of the hobgoblin giving chase.
Tears streamed down their face as they ran, and as the two looked back, they bumped into a solid surface.
The two looked up to see a man wearing a white church robe with a chain mail shirt underneath and small amounts of leather armor worn on top, defending vitals whilst not restricting movement. The man had a small shield on his left hand, as well as a broadsword strapped to his waist. The man had on a helmet with a red plume and what appeared to be broken horns on each side of it.
"Move." The man said as the goblin horde approached rapidly. The two girls moved out of the way as the man's left hand began to pulse with a blue light. The man thrust out a hand, sending a shower of small Soul Spears from his hand. Each Soul Spear found its mark, piercing through several goblins before dissipating.
Half of the goblin horde remained.
The man unsheathed his broadsword.
"17." The man said before throwing a knife from his belt at one of the smaller goblins.
"18."
