A few days go by; Don and the boys fly in for a weekend so as it turns out I get to see Stevie sooner than I expected. I haven't heard from Carol since she went home with her little girlfriend, none of her clothes are gone so I assume she's shacking up and getting high. Fine with me. She's someone else's headache, for a few days at least. Part of me is damn pleased she finally found a hook up with money, she usually picks bums. College boys, or out of town business men looking to step out on the wifey for a bit. Maybe this woman has more money than me and she'll decided to stay...or more likely she eats pussy better than I do. Whatever the reason Carol's gone, and I don't have to worry about her, for the moment at least.

As is his custom when he's in the studio, Don has a tall frosty beer and a joint waiting on him. Glenn, Joe and Randy are nose deep in coke and whiskey. When I walk in I'm surprised to see Stevie and her friend Robin, but my surprise turns to excitement. Or whatever my emotional equivalent of excitement is, she's sitting well away from the party table smiling at Don as he regales her with one of his many concert tales. Robin waves when she sees me and I do the same "No dog today?" she giggles, Stevie gives me a look but turns her attention quickly back to Don.

Passing up the powder I roll a joint getting down to the business of the day "I finished Hotel California while you were gone, you wanna have a listen?" Don shrugs throwing an arm around Stevie and sucking on his beer "Yeah, lay it on me music man" I hate when he calls me that. He offers Stevie a puff on his joint which she takes. I find myself staring at her soft pink lips as she takes a drag, her eyes closing as the smoke enters her lungs.

I take an answering puff on my joint, cataloguing her preference for herb over blow in the back of my mind. For some reason her refusal to shove that shit up her nose makes me...well it makes me feel happy. Carol can never get enough of it, I half expect her to die of an overdose-not that I'd give a damn. She's a junkie by her own fucking choice, "Here" while the music's been playing I roll Stevie a joint from my own stash. She looks hesitant to take it from me but Don bumps her shoulder "Take it. Lindsey's always got good shit, besides I don't want you smoking all mine up" to placate Henley she takes the joint from me.

Using my gold plated lighter I ignite the end of the joint, her cheeks hollow as she puffs it. Smoke emits from her nose as her eyes close in bliss. God she's so fucking beautiful "Thanks" it's sincere and less tense than her other responses to me. Smiling I put my lighter away "Anytime" someone jostles my shoulder, Joe, "Hey, can we turn up the acoustic on that last part I don't think it sounds right" rewinding the track I turn the acoustic up, Joe and Glenn both catch the fuzz from the string. I can't believe I missed that in post "I'll fix it now, sorry guys" Don throws a peanut shell at me giggling "Lazy fuck. Let me guess Carol was sucking you off and you weren't paying attention" hardly, that bitch only fucks me when she's horny. Otherwise I'm left to my own devices.

"Yeah, well I was distracted that day. We had visitors" Robin buries her head in Joe's chest laughing from her high. Stevie smirks handing the joint to her friend "Randy get me another beer" the oft forgotten, but frequently abused, Randy Meisner grumbles his way to the fridge extracting a cool can of Budweiser "We can lay down the vocals whenever you guys are ready" Don opens his beer taking a long sip "I think we should let Stevie fill in on the backing track" Glenn looks over at me "Are you fucking stupid? She can't sing" as I expected Robin and Stevie both look irritated at the comment.

"I don't know...a chick on the track might make it sound spookier. I mean it's a pretty eerie song" Glenn argues back standing from his chair "Joe what do you think?" Walsh leans back in his chair shaking his long brownish blonde hair "I don't care, let's give it a try" Randy, whose opinion doesn't matter to Don anyway, keeps silent "Lindsey? what about it?" I honestly don't know what Glenn's game is right now "We should ask Felder" the other Don, the less annoying one is still on vacation in France. He composed the melody to the song, and he's lead guitar.
