Chapter Thirteen

"I heard from Chenle that you're thinking of celebrating your birthday," Renjun said while we were in the car. The car came to a stop at a red light. "How come you didn't tell me?"

I was on my phone, texting Lucas about some movie that was releasing this year and was super excited for it. He was equally excited and asked if we could watch it together. It was the same movie Renjun—the loser of yesterday's game and bet—was going to treat us to when it releases. There was nothing wrong watching it twice though. So I told Lucas, "Sure. Gotta see when we have free time though."

I looked up from my phone and looked at Renjun, raising an eyebrow. "Since when were you close with Chenle? And when did you have his number?"

"Relaaaaax," Renjun said. He had one hand on the steering while while the other was on the back head of my seat. "I'm not stealing your friends. We exchanged contact while you were zoning out and thinking about your dear Lucas again during dinner. We agreed to play basketball next time when we have the time. I think your friend who works over at Lee's Pizza will join us." He paused for a second to blink. "Wow, now that I'm saying that out loud, it does sound like I'm stealing your friends."

I rolled my eyes at him and told him, "Don't steal my friends! I worked hard to get them."

Renjun smiled and the stoplight finally turned green. He continued driving until we reached E-Cube Mall. While I was grabbing my things and Renjun turning the engine off, he suddenly said, "Hey, I'm going to leave work early."

I stopped packing to turn my head to see him. "Why?"

"I got a game later," he replied.

"At home?" I asked him.

He shook his head. "There's a PUBG competition later at 6pm, here in E-Cube Mall. Me and some of my friends joined so I'll have to leave work earlier. I don't know what time it'll end, so don't wait for me. Have lunch with me today and have dinner with Lucas. Tell him that when we pass by him later."

I nodded. "OK. Do you get a prize if you win?"

Renjun started grinning. "300, 000 won. In cash!"

I gasped loudly. That was a lot for a game competition but I guess the game was a big thing if the prize was worth that much. "You have to win, Renjun! You have to, OK? Oh my gosh, good luck and all the best!"

Renjun pushed the door open but never stopped grinning. "I'm Huang Renjun. That prize money is as good as mine." Then he stepped out of the car.

I did the same after I grabbed all my things and then looked at Renjun, shaking my head at his overconfidence. "Don't be too sure about yourself. You'll never know who you're up against."

Renjun tapped the top of his car and said, "If I win, I'll treat you to meat."

My eyes started sparkling. "You're going to win this, I'm sure of it."

When we reached the escalator, he said, "Tsk. You only support me when you get something in return. What kind of friend are you?"

I winked. "The best type you can ever have. Consider me a blessing to your life."

Renjun paused before he said, "I can't argue with that."

We reached the first floor and I found Jaemin at his workplace. When we saw each other, we waved. But I didn't see Lucas around. Renjun had already grabbed my lunch bag and left. I approachedJaemin, my face full of confusion.
