CHAPTER EIGHT
For the next four days, I did nothing. Not when Hyung was doing all the work himself. Renjun helped every now and then but most of the times, if Hyung could handle it, then he would do it himself.
I was getting used to this—getting left off from it. In fact, since I only took up the space there, I decided to sit on the other end of the shop—where the sunglasses where located. I placed a chair at the near corner of the shop and stood up whenever a customer came in to look at the sunglasses. Renjun joined me on this end as well and only went to the side Hyung was on whenever he was needed. It was better this way—Hyung and I were out of each other's hair.
"How come we don't play songs here?" I asked Renjun, who was leaning against the wall, in between where the sunglasses were displayed. His arms were crossed and he was constantly looking over at Hyung. From where he was standing, he had a clear view of them.
Renjun turned to face me after I asked and gave it a thought. "We used to. But the workers last time played the songs really loud that we started getting complaints. So Dad told them there was no need to play songs anymore."
I frowned. It was a lot more boring without songs playing. Unlike the cube store adjacent to us. They were having a blast, singing along to the songs they played on their speakers. Most of the songs they played were rap songs I had never heard of, so I couldn't jam along to them. Every now and then, they'd play Solo but that would be it. The rest of the songs, I had no idea.
I looked at Renjun again and grinned. I waved my phone in front of his face and asked him, "How about we play some music of our own? We don't have to play it so loud so it won't bother the customers but loud enough for this end of the shop to be lively enough. Don't you think it's a little too quiet around here?"
Renjun shrugged but he was grinning. He liked the idea of playing music and not hearing the silence. So he gave me a signal—a little nod—and so I shuffled my phone and let the music play. The first song was EXID's "I Love You", to which Renjun reacted by lightly dancing along to the song. I laughed and secretly recorded him while he wasn't looking. That would be used if needed.
The next song played—Mamamoo's "Starry Night". At this time, a customer entered the store and examined the sunglasses. Renjun immediately stopped dancing, embarrassed that he was caught dancing. He bowed as an apology and the face expression he had on was hilarious.
The customer—a man in his early forties with a short but buff built—was examining the sunglasses that were on the more expensive end, since they were polarized. He examined them in silence and glanced at the both of us at once time, but was unbothered by our presence. He took a few sunglasses, examined them and then put them back in their place. After starring for a good two minutes, he just left—no words left said.
"It's always like this here," Renjun said after the man left.
I looked up at him and titled my head to the side. "What do you mean?"
He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the wall again. Then, he nodded towards the direction of where the man walked after he left the store. "People examine the sunglasses, try some on and then leave. They never really buy them. That's a rare occasion, at this point."
I reexamined the sunglasses we were selling. We sold polarized sunglasses that were mostly used for sports, not so much on the fashion side. Truth be told, if I was a customer, I wouldn't have bought my sunglasses from these stores. I gave Renjun a fleet shrug and slapped my hands onto my thighs before stretching my legs. It has been a really slow day.
