"So I have been counting the days down" Theo started and I knew it couldn't be any good. We were on the boat, far away from all the other people, in some room with four walls, very close to one another. Big enough for four beds to put in, we slept all together next to each other.

"And I know you're trying to hide it from me and everybody, but I asked your dad once when you were born. I mean I knew you were seventeen, but I didn't know exactly when you birthday was. but now I do, happy birthday!" He yelled and threw his arms around me, involving me in a big fat hug.

I never liked to celebrate my birthday, it never seemed special and it never seemed to matter. But turning eighteen is always special, at least that's what they tell you.

"I want to thank whoever is up there for making you happen, because I love you and without you, I wouldn't be in the place I am in now. You have made me a better person, and I can't be more thankful for that. Happy eighteenth birthday, love of my life" Theo grabbed my face with his both hands and kissed my forehead, the tip of my nose, just next to my lips, my chin, my both cheeks and then finally, his lips touched mine. His soft ones wrapped around my own, more gentle, more careful and more loving than it has even been. It was just a sweet kiss, but with so much meaning.

He took something from his back pocket.

"It was hard to find a gift without money, or when everyone is looking for you. Just before we left, I found this in a little shop where an old lady works. It was one of the very few left standing. Of course I didn't have any money with me, and I explained that to the lady. She said I should just take it, if I could give her some food. I stole some food and gave that to her and she gave me this in return. She wanted to me to tell you thats its very special, its made for a very special person." At the end of the story I got tears in my eyes. I was just so emotional the past week, with all that had happened, I honestly forgot about my birthday.

Theo showed me a tiny box with the most beautiful ring in it. He pulled it out and slipped it on my finger.

"Promise me, that we will always love each other and stay true to each other and ourselves, promise me that" Theo looked deep into my eyes and I could see that he was emotional too, he eyesbrows furrowed together, his lips tightly pressed and his jaw tensed.

"I promise, I promise"

"So we don't have any cake or something, so we got you this apple! But don't worry, its a special apple." Ansel said and gave me a perfectly red apple.

"thank you so much. I don't mean just for this apple, but for everything. I know we haven't been the nearest friends lately, but you really are a great guy and I appreciate you a lot" I said and I saw Ansel beaming with joy. I hadn't seen him like this for a long time. He jumped over to me and tackled me to the floor, giving me a hug.

"you're awesome, and a great hugger" Ansel said and burried his head in my shoulder.

"All right, don't forget she is my girlfriend, get off of her now" Theo said and took ansel's shoulders and tears him off of me. A huge relieve goes through my body as I'm finally able to breath again.

"thank you" I muttered and grin at Ansel. This day really was a good day, I'm wearing this beautiful ring, Ansel isn't mad at me anymore and shailene had told me earlier this morning that I'm the best friend she always wanted.

I feel loved, appreciated, I feel a part of this family.

But the happiness didn't last for long, as someone knocks on our door. Tim, the guy Theo met and who's taking us to Europe, stepped in. His face full of concern.
