A painter sat at her easel one day painting a picture. She used blues, pinks, greens, reds, oranges and yellows to create a beautiful oceanic sunset. The whole time she sung a slow song under her breath. Having lost herself in her thoughts she accidentally painted a wide line of brown over her painting. At first she stared at it in horror at what she'd done. This error seemed to completely ruin the painting she'd spent months on. She put down her equipment and went running to her friends to cry. When they heard what had happened they comforted her and told her that she could always make another. This made her feel worse so she went to her parents. When they heard what had happened they told her the error was simply a lesson about paying attention to surroundings and she should try to learn from it. This didn't make her feel better either. Feeling low she returned home and tried to avoid looking at her mistake. But that day her sister came to visit her as she was passing through. When the depressed artist saw her sister she told her what had happened. Her sister asked to see the painting. The artist took her to the painting and looked at her miserably as she studied it. It took barely moments for the sister to smile, pick up the brush still covered with paint and begin to paint. Left to right, down, right to left, up, right to left. Once she'd done she stepped aside and showed the finished result to her sister. Brown lines bordered and crossed over to separate the sunset into four parts. It looked as if you were staring outside a window into the beautiful sunset the artist had created. The artist gasped in astonishment. The sister laughed.
"You might think that line you painted was a mistake but it was simply the beginning of what you were really supposed to create. If a line placed by accident is always an error, then what a beautiful error it is."
