It was getting dark by the time the paramedics arrived. Nana seemed to be doing alright. She was just in shock. Well, that was what the doctors had said. She was taken into the hospital, and told that she should stay overnight. Yuka had to stay with her. She offered to let Mayu stay home and wait for Kouta, but Mayu insisted on joining her.
"Oh yeah, I have to tell Kouta..." Thought Yuka. She went inside and picked up her phone. She began to dial his number. It rang four times. No response. She sighed, and set the phone down.
"Oh, I should leave a voicemail." She called again, heard the four rings, and prepared to give a short speech about Nana's health, and where they'd be staying for the night.
"Beep!" Went the phone.
"Hey, Kouta. The doctors said that Nana will be alright, and um...we're gonna have to stay there with her for the night. You know, precautions and all that. I'm taking Mayu with me, so you don't have to worry about her. Oh, and remember to take care of Wanta. He'll be your only housemate for tonight. Well, alright, I'll see you soon. I-I-.....I um..I'll see you!" She quickly hung up the phone.
"Was I about to say I love you? Ugh. I think I was....." Yuka mentally put herself down for this.
"You're so stupid."
"He'd NEVER love someone like you!"
"Remember Nyu...? The girl who took him away from you?"
"Nyu has his heart! That's why he can't let her go, Yuka!"
"Yuka, Yuka!"
"Stop, Yuka! Stop!"
"Agh! Shut up!" Yuka screeched, holding her hands on her head. She kneeled to the ground, tears pouring from her eyes. It seemed as though there were voices of angry people inside of her head. Every since Lucy had left them, they became worse and worse. It seemed as though Kouta was absolutely obsessed with the thought of finding her. So much so, that he had forgotten about Yuka.
"Will he ever remember what we had? How strong of friends we were!? All he remembers are the things that Nyu had retaught him! What makes her so special!? She just barely came into our lives! How could she possibly teach him the ways of his past!? Was it her resemblance to a child? Did it make him remember Kanae!? Those were MY memories! The ones of the days we spent together on the beach! Ugh! She took everything over. SHE ruined my chances to be with Kouta, and I can't ever forgive her!"
"That's right....she took everything."
"All she had to do was show up, and she became better than you in his eyes!"
"What are you going to do about it, Yuka?"
She took a moment to carefully rethink what she said.
"B-But...maybe I'm wrong. It's not like she intentionally did any of this. We...we had to help her!"
"Oh please. You're being too kind to the girl who just ruined your life. Whether or not she meant to doesn't matter. She ruined everything."
"Everything"
"Everything."
Everything!"
"No....why did this have to happen to me!? Why, damn it!?" She screamed out, then dropped on all fours, face down towards the carpet.
Suddenly, Mayu walked in to see her friend bawling on her hands and knees.
"Hey, Yuka?" Her voice caused Yuka to jump. "Nana will be okay. You don't have to cry any longer." She put on a sympathetic smile, and put her hand on her weeping friend's back.
"Y-You're right...." She said, sniffling. "What do I have to worry about?"
"Yeah." Mayu replied, smiling. "Let's go."
And they both walked off together.
