So it's been awhile. Life has kept me away (mainly school). I've also had a major writers block, so if this chapter isn't up to my usual standards, I apologise.

It's also a super short chapter.

I decided that talking to Jade about what I had said last week was a terrible idea. I wanted to message her and apologise for bluntness. But what could I say? What I told her was the truth.

I was such an idiot.

Saying it straight up like that was a terrible idea. Telling her was a terrible idea. We barely knew each other, but yet I had this attraction to her. She made me happy. She didn't make me feel like I had to be anyone else but myself. Sure she had her scars, but before the accident she would have been in with the popular crowd. Now they avoid her because of something that one of theirs caused.

I lightly ran my fingers over the bruise on my cheek, it cried in pain and urged me to stop. I picked up my phone again and tried to think of the right thing to send to Jade. The thing is, that I never did really know what to say. I'd learnt that saying the wrong thing can get you into more trouble than you were originally.

The school I went to when I was younger wasn't flashy and new, it was at least 50 years old, and was close to falling apart. Niall, Liam and I had discovered a small hole underneath the floor board of our classroom. We stored anything we could down there. Liam brought a candle and a lighter so that we could actually see what we were doing.

I think that you can guess what happened in the end. It was the end of recess and we forgot to blow the candle out. People only started to realise that something was wrong when smoke started to seep through the floorboards. Long story short, we nearly burnt down the school. All that was left in the classroom was a gaping hole where the floor was supposed to be.

We hadn't told anyone about the space under the boards, so at first we thought that we were in the clear. About 2 weeks passed before we were called into the office. I figured that a kid in our year called Sam was the one responsible for turning us in. He hated me ever since his girlfriend Audrey kissed me last year, but he insists that I was the one that kissed her. He always tried to get me in trouble, even when I obviously wasn't involved, but in this case, he was right.

We entered the principals office with straight faces, knowing that if we got caught, the school would do everything they could to rain hell down on us. I decided that keeping my cool and not doing anything over the top would be the best option.

"Take a seat boys," Mr Kennedy began. I slumped down into the cold wooden chair and crossed my arms, but then uncrossed them realising that it looked like a defensive or guilty stance.

"Nice chairs," Niall complimented, smiling like the idiot he was. If looks could kill Mr Kennedy would have killed Niall over 100 times. But Niall just continued on.

"I've never actually been in your office before y'know sir, and let me just say I expected a lot more -" he was cut off when Liam kicked him in the shin.

"Shut up Niall," we both snapped in unison.

I decided to play dumb. They couldn't pin it on us, mainly because Sam wasn't reliable, and they were desperate to find out who it was so they were taking anything they could at the moment

"As you boys know, the school was nearly burnt down 2 weeks ago. Anything you'd like to tell me?" Mr Kennedy growled. It's not that I didn't like the guy, I mean he was a good bloke, but at times he had a temper. And because of Sam, I usually was on the receiving end of it.

"Why would you suspect us, sir?" Liam said, feigning innocence.

"We have a source," Mr Kennedy started.

"Who?" Liam questioned, "because if it's Sam bloody Simpson, then I think we're done here," he said starting to get up. I viscously grabbed his arm and yanked him back into his seat.

"Shut up Liam," I hissed.

"Bloody hell Harry, no need for that," Liam growled.

"What Liam is trying to say sir is that we had nothing to do with it," I explained.

Mr Kennedy leant back in his plush leather seat and scratched his stubbly chin. He lifted up his glasses and rubbed his eyes. He looked like he was going to resign any second.

"Boys you might as well come clean," Mr Kennedy grunted.

"But we haven't done anything sir! And if you're going to take Sam fucking Simpson's word for it then we're most definitely done here," I shouted. So much for keeping my cool and not doing anything over the top.

"Shut up Harry," Liam and Niall both screamed.

"Boys!" Mr Kennedy barked, we all turned our heads to him. "Detention for all of you," he said, forcefully standing up and slamming his hands down on the desk.

"And if I hear another profanity from you, " he growled, harshly pointing his finger at me, "or if you try to leave this room again without permission," moving the finger to Liam, "or if you say something else remotely stupid relating to me or this room," he cried throwing his hand up while staring at Niall, "I will make the rest of your school life hell."

Liam and I forced our mouths shut and stared down at our laps. Niall quietly raised his hand.

"What is it now?" Mr Kennedy cried.

"Sir, it's just," he paused for a minute. I felt a sense of foreboding, then Niall said something that basically sealed our fate.

"Sir, your fly's undone."

I dialled her number and waited, praying to God that she'd pick up the phone. But why would she? She doesn't have me in her contacts, so this would be listed as an unknown number. Why would she even pick up the phone, she doesn't talk for Christ's sake. I started to regret even bothering trying to call her. This was a bad idea. How could you be such an idiot?

Suddenly the phone stopped ringing, and I looked down and saw it counting how long the conversation has gone for so far.

"Jade?"

It took me a second to realise that she wouldn't reply.

"Listen, I know that you can't talk but don't hang up on me just yet. I need to talk to you about stuff that I've said, do you think you could meet me after school tomorrow?"

There was a pause and I laughed, "alright, cough once for yes and twice for no."

The line was quiet for a moment before one cough ran through. I smiled.

"I'll see you later then. Bye Jade," I murmured, before hanging up.

"I love you," I sighed, too late for her to hear it.

The part of the story where they nearly burnt down the school is actually something that happened to my dad and his friends when he was younger. My family is the biggest meme ngl.
