in the ambulance
at the bottom of the cliff lay the ambulance on its side, inside the equipment was thrown around scattered all over the place, and the people were thrown around like rag dolls or crash test dummies, in the front seat captain Sullivan lay leaning downwards towards the driver side blood dripping from his face, his belt keeping him from falling on to andy who lay unconscious with blood pouring down her face from a gash on her forehead.
Sullivan's pov
my world is black, as I come to I feel strange I feel my head leaning to one side, I feel sticky, I blink my eyes open I try to straighten up but every time I do I am thrown back to the side, I look around then It dawns on me the ambulance was moving it moved until we went over the edge, my first aid skills kick in, I feel my head I find no blood but my head is pounding I think nothing of it, then I check my sides I feel for breaks or fractures, my ribs hurt but I cant find any broken bones but maybe I am just bruised since I am strapped to my seat, I move my legs I notice I have a nasty deformity of my right leg meaning it is broken, after checking myself out and deeming my self fit apart from a broken leg, I reach down I place two fingers against my juniors neck I feel for a pulse i breathe a sigh of relief.
she has a pulse least I know my colleague is okay, but then my mind casts to our patient in the back all alone and scared, I take my belt off, I move myself slowly and steady, I climb through the door leading to the back of the ambulance, I find the patient and I check for a pulse I sigh she to has a pulse, know my job until help arrives is to help my patient and my friend, I grab a collar I crawl through the space of the door I reach down and move Andy into an upright slanted position so that I could place a collar around her neck, I manage to secure the collar into place.
I have an idea I cant be in two place at once and I could drag Andy into the back and lean her against the side of the door, I like the idea, go to the front of the ambulance I unclip Herrera's seatbelt I grab her underneath her armpits I pull her out of her seat slowly making sure she is not stuck or trapped anywhere, I continue to move her once I have her in the back of the ambulance with the patient I start to check the patient.
with the patient still strapped to the board I check her incision sight make sure its covered, check the patient is still breathing, and I re assess her for injuries since she could have sustained more injuries in the crash but she hadn't the spinal board protected her mostly, I move to Andy I grab a stethoscope I listen to her chest I can barely hear breath sounds from her meaning she has broken ribs, I lift her shirt up revealing her toned abs but then I see bruising forming all over her stomach and her side I palpate her stomach feeling for free fluid, her stomach is bad it is hard meaning she has internal bleeding, I need to do something, I grab the bag and I fish around for an iv and a needle, I put a needle into Andy's hand and then I connect her to the drip hoping to replace what blood she has lost internally, as I finish examining her I hear something I hear groans of someone regaining consciousness.
Andy's pov
I feel someone pulling my aching body, but as I move I feel pain radiating through my body I want to scream out and say stop but my eyes dont seem to want to open, as I settle into the new place I have been dragged to I feel some strange hands groping my stomach pressing down, as they pressed down I felt weird and then the pain came, as I try and breath I find I cant now I know something is wrong, I force myself to wake up I groan as I wake up I feel someone lifting ,y shirt and looking at me like am an art exhibit, I open my eyes and I see Sullivan looking at me and checking the iv he put into my hand without me knowing.
Andy: what happened( trying to breath)?
Sullivan: the ambulance was blown off the road, I dragged you into here so I can keep an eye on the both of you.
Andy: you shouldn't have dine that I could have a spinal injury.
Sullivan: I know but I had to take the risk since we dont know when we will be rescued and I cant keep crawling back and forth between you both.
Andy: then dont so whats wrong with you?
Sullivan: mild concussion, broken leg the rest is bruising I am not as bad as you.
Andy: I guessed when I tried to take a breath.
Sullivan: how is the breathing?
Andy: hurts to breathe, and I think ive punctured my lung.
Sullivan: I could do something to help relieve your breathing it may last until we get you to hospital.
Andy: and what is that?
Sullivan: I could put a needle into your chest decompress it.
Andy: fine do it.
Sullivan gets the go ahead he grabs a needle he takes the cover off, he feels andy's chest and when he is certain he has the right place he pushes the needle in between the ribs with force, he removes the plunger from the needle, once its removed all you hear is hissing noise, and then and takes a breath without struggling to catch her breath.
Sullivan: how is it now?
Andy: better now we wait to be rescued.
