chapter 7

a day later

Andy's  room

the sound in the room was from the ventilator breathing for Andy, as she lay in the bed in a coma, at the side of her bed sat Maya sleeping like a baby hoping her friend would wake up, it had been a day since Andy had surgery to save her life and the ventilator was breathing for her, the whole station made a rota for the next couple of days to sit with Andy and so she wasn't alone at all times, in case she woke up confused.

Andy's pov

I lay on this uncomfortable cloud, as I come to I feel my body is numb I cant feel much, but is I get the feeling back in my whole body I start to feel an uncomfortable cloud underneath my body, as I try to swallow but I cant I feel like there is something stopping me,i try to breathe but then as I force my self to breathe I feel a gush of air go into my lungs that I cant stop but then that's when I hear it, I cant see it but I hear this continuous noise in my ear, then I hear foots step rushing round, and I hear sounds from people talking I try to open my eyes but everything is blurry, I close them again and again until my vision is clear, I see my father talking and looking worried, I see my friend worried beside me, but then I see a swarm of blue rush into the room I relax when I realize that I am in hospital, I try to move but then I get this searing pain rush through my shoulder, arm and stomach,, I stop the fight and watch the people around me be frantic, I relax and fall back into a dreamless sleep knowing that I am fine and my body is tired from the accident, and soon I feel the tube being removed from my throat.

in the room

Pruitt sat quietly looking at Andy, while Maya was a sleep, but then out of no where the machines started making an odd noise, which gets Maya's attention.

Pruitt: somebody help please( shouts for help).

miranda and Meredith rush into the room when they hear the noise, they pull both maya and Pruitt out the way and they take a look at andy.

Pruitt: so whats wrong with my daughter?

Miranda: I don't know but the alarms are not because your daughter has stopped breathing she is okay.

Meredith: hang on a minute doctor bailey, do you notice her saturation levels have improved drastically from yesterday.

Miranda: so they have.

Maya: so what does this mean?

Meredith: I am going to turn the ventilator off for a few minutes I want to test something.

Pruitt: but wont she be able to breathe without the ventilator?

Miranda: that's what we are testing there is a possibility that your daughter maybe trying to breathe on her own.

Pruitt: oh well get on.

Meredith and Miranda turn the machine off, all the air has stopped being pumped into Andy's lungs, soon they saw something amazing Andy started to breathe on her own.

Meredith: well now we know why the machines went off.

Maya: why?

Miranda: Andy is breathing for herself and she just needs some oxygen through the mask, but she doesn't need the ventilator, I think her lungs are strong enough to breathe on there own.

Meredith removes the tube from Andy's mouth, once its removed she paces a mask over her nose and mouth.

Miranda: now that she is breathing for herself it wont be long before she wakes up so be awake, and page me if you need anything.

Maya: well especially if she is in pain.

Miranda: that to.

Pruitt: thank you doctors for all you have done.

Meredith: no problem we will be by to check on her so don't worry.

Miranda and Meredith leave Maya and Pruitt to sit with Andy as she sleeps peacefully since the tube has been removed.

half an hour later

Pruitt and Maya sat talking to each other, when all of a sudden the body on the bed suddenly moves and groans, the groans are from the sound of Andy waking up from her nap, Pruitt and Maya look to the bed and they see Andy's eyes flutter open, both Pruitt and Maya breathe a sigh of relief when Andy wakes up for the first time.

Pruitt: andy your awake how you feeling?

Andy: like I got into a car accident.

Maya: good just the same old andy we all know and love and we love that you have finally decided to wake up, you don't know how much we were all worried about you.

Andy: I can imagine you couldn't keep out of trouble.

Maya: that's right.

Andy: hey Maya before my operation I remember talking to you in the ambulance and you had something to tell me but you wouldn't tell.

Maya: you remember?
Andy: yeah I remember everything the accident, the rescue, and in the ambulance where you held my hand.

Pruitt: that's good so how are you feeling any pain?

Andy: sore but I can handle the pain, it's just the throat.

Maya: that's to be expected from having a tube down your throat.

Pruitt: I will tell the nurse she is awake and gets some water or ice chips for her throat.

Andy: thanks, dad.

Pruitt walks out leaving Andy and Maya alone.

after Pruitt left the room Maya sat beside andy, a look of sadness, but deep down she was happy about her promotion, andy turns to her friend who is deep in thought and andy cares about her friend so she decides to ask the questions that are on her mind.

Andy: Maya so what did you want to tell me before my operation?

Maya: oh I wanted to tell you that you and Sullivan were right, and everyone knows but you don't.

Andy: Maya just spit it out whatever is on your mind.

Maya: fine I have been promoted to lieutenant.

Andy: yeah know you know I would hug you but I can't because I have just had major surgery.

Maya: I know.

soon Pruitt and the nurse came back into the room, Pruitt sits down looking at his daughter and her friend, after checking andy's wounds and making sure her pain relief is topped up, and then she left andy and her friend to rest.

 a few hours later Miranda agreed to Pruitt telling andy about her captain and there patients demise, andy lay in bed listening to the bad news, she cried at thre thought the man she never got on with actually opened upto her in the crash and she thought she could be friends with the man who doesnt socialize with his team.
