chapter 6

surgery waiting room

everyone walk to the surgery waiting room they sit down in quiet pondering the recent events, that lead to the  death of there captain, and one of there own being in surgery and fighting for there life.

operating room 2 

Andy lay on the table with tubes down her throat and her eyes taped shut with someone watching her breathing throughout the duration of her surgery, at the sides of the table was, Miranda, Meredith and Maggie working hard to save Andy's life.

Maggie: well the lung is inflated and there is no other problems she may need a check up for her breathing once she is discharged.

Miranda: good stick around in case we need you.

Maggie: okay so how's it going on your side?

Miranda: well spleen is ruptured and her liver is lacerated, both need repairing, but I don't know how she managed to keep talking when her stomach was full of blood, but there again she maybe feeling the effects of the blood loss when she wakes up.

Meredith: hey didn't we ask link to come and reduce he shoulder and put pins in her arm.

Miranda: we did( she is cut off when Nico walks in just as Miranda is talking).

Nico: heard the lieutenant has a dislocated shoulder that needs reducing.

Miranda: yep and she also has a broken arm that needs pinning to.

Nico: fine lets do the shoulder first, dr Pearce maybe some help from you.

Maggie: sure where do you want me?

Nico: near her head and hold her shoulder in place while I pull.

Maggie does as she is told she holds Andy's shoulder still while Nico pulled on the lower arm unitl he heard a pop.

NIco: bam its in place, when she is out of surgery she needs it elevating and an xray, now scalpel please.

the  nurse hands him the scalpel, and he makes his first incision into Andy's fore arm, soon the bones were aligned and pinned together with a plate and two screws.

Nico: am done here close up and put the  arm in a plaster

Miranda: thank you doctor and nice work, and we are done here I think.

Meredith: yeah blood pressure is stable chest tube draining okay, and the internal bleeding has stopped, but this girl has a hard road ahead of her and when she wakes up.

Miranda: what do you mean?

Meredith: I heard off Amelia before coming in here that the captain didn't make it he had a brain bleed all the staff of the fire station know but Andy is being told when she wakes up.

Miranda: oh hell no.

Maggie: what?

Miranda: no one is telling this girl that her boss died in the crash that almost took her life, no I am putting my foot down, once she is stronger and can handle stress then yes but not when she wakes up.

Meredith: okay but someone needs to tell her father and her friends and make sure they don't tell her.

Miranda: fine I will since she is my patient.

Meredith: good I will close you go speak to her family.

miranda does as she is told she heads to the scrub room, and scrubs out of surgery, once scrubbed out she walks to the waiting room were Pruitt and the rest of the team are waiting for news.

waiting room

Pruitt sat in the chair quietly praying for healing for his daughter, as he was quiet he looks up when he hears foot steps approaching him, he looks to see his doctor Miranda bailey walking towards him.

Pruitt: please say she is not dead.

Miranda: she is alive she had internal bleeding in the end we ended up removing her spleen, and she had a lacerated liver, which we fixed, she had a dislocated shoulder and a broken right arm, which has been fixed with plates and screws, the dislocation has been reduced she should be fine maybe pain for a couple of days, and she has a gash to her head but no brain damage or bleed just a concussion, and she had three broken ribs.

Pruitt: so she should heal?

Miranda: with time, and help and lots of tlc I think she should make a full recovery, but I heard the captain didn't make it and I am sorry for your loss, but I would advise against telling andy once she has woken up stress or news like that could cause problems and it could set her recovery back weeks.

Warren: I agree with Miranda.

Pruitt: okay we will and thank you again can we see her?

Miranda: sure she is being settled into intensive care as we speak, and I should warn you she will be on a ventilator to breathe for her just so we can give her body time to recover.

Pruitt: great thank you.

Miranda walks off to deal with other patients, but soon a nurse comes over and takes Pruitt to Andy's room, he looks back and sees the sad look on Maya's face.

Pruitt: bishop would you mind coming to see her with me I am afraid to see her on my own.

Maya: sure I would like that.

Maya walks beside Pruitt until they reach Andy's room.

Andy's room 

as Maya and Pruitt walked into the room the first thing they see is a body of a women lay in the bed with tubes coming from her mouth breathing for her, Pruitt walks to one side of the bed and he sits down he takes his daughters hand in his he caresses it and squeezes it praying silently in his head that his daughter heals and wakes up and says  dad am fine, Maya sat at the other side and she looked to her friend who she cared for hoping she would wake up and smile.
