I found Derek in the parking lot, got in the car, and said "Hey baby".
He smiled and said "That's more like it. So are we going to the apartment?"
"Yeah."
We drove to the apartment and by then it was night time . I pretended to have nightmares. He came in and carried me out of my room and made me lemon water. That I can say is truly one thing he always knew to do: make lemon water.
"I cant.." I began. I placed the ring on the table, concluding that I was done. "You treat me like crap, abused me, and almost killed your own cousin. I've been with you for a year. And I'd go back to those years I was with Jaime ANY DAY." I walked out the door with my things packed.
"Where are you gonna go? You have no car. " He ran after me and blocked the doorway. "Don't go, I love you!"
"Yeah, love is what you call it. But really. You're a 2 faced, abusing, killing machine. A monster. Your cousin was better to me than anyone I've ever been with, including you. "
I texted Jaime : the sweet escape has begun. just got out of the house finally with my things. going to walk home now, its only a 10 minute walk
Jaime texted back : sweet! and hey, my mom is gonna come get you and bring you to my house. they discharged me early this morning. I'm home right now.
Jaimes mom texted me: hey sweetie heard what happened, my nephew is no good. I'm glad you chose my son, all this time he's missed you. I'm coming to get you, tell me what corner you're on.
I texted her back: thank you very much, I appreciate everything. I'm on the corner of Grove and Suttie.
Soon enough , Jaimes mother pulled up in her SUV and she rolled down the window and said,
"Long time no see, stranger. I miss you. Get in the car, I thought I saw a rain drop."
I thanked her again, and the sweet escape finally happened.
