i'm okay, he told them
when he cried himself to sleep at nights
i'm alright, he told them
when he survived another fight
i'm strong, he told them
when he starting lose hope
i'm smart, he told them
when he couldn't find ways to cope
i'm not broken, he told them
when his scars became visible
i'm fine, he told them
when he wished to be invisible
i'm not crying, he told them
when sobs escaped his mouth,
i'm.... not okay, he told them
when his life went south
i need help, he told them
when he couldn't handle it
i'm scared, he told them
but all they saw was a hypocrite
because he was a man and no one liked it when he cried.
