"That was sure a fast trip from Kan Diona." Baro was rooting around the kitchen dishwasher to get his mug. "Only several weeks."
"With the energy from the Jainaa Core it's now this easy for me to bring the ship this far in such a relatively short amount of time," I replied, pouring myself golden-greenish herbal brew. "Though I regret I taught Shaamta the trick. I wanted to keep him at a distance for a while."
"You've gotten too close with him. He is dangerous, Falaha." Baro found his mug and turned to me. "I don't trust him. Yet. Besides, I'm positive he has a thing for you. It pisses me off."
"Ah, you are jealous." I smiled. "Both Eaters are like this too."
"It pisses me off that I cannot protect you from him. Though I really want to." His silvery-yellow gaze locked with mine.
"You don't have to. He is persistent in his pursuit, but he is useful. He had taught me a lot of things a Sangu should know."
"Things like when all of your males will die out of old age, he will have you for himself?" Baro smirked, pouring himself the drink. "Eyuran was furious hearing that and Orewen wanted to kill something."
I laughed. "Shaamta speaks what he thinks. At least he said it out loud instead of silently waiting for this to happen. And he isn't planning on murdering any of you. That's a good thing in my book."
"He can change his mind any time." The Medan sipped his brew.
"Don't worry, he won't. He's a little hard to get used to, but he's not that bad."
Baro's eyes narrowed. "Falaha, do you have feelings for him? It's true that we won't be around forever—"
"I'm something of an oddity around here, so don't underestimate me, love. As a Yajur Sangu, I can keep you all alive and well as long as you want to be around." I sighed. "But I really don't know. He is interesting. The thing is, I like my males to be compatible with each other. I don't see any of you doing exactly that in the near future. And don't forget that it is me who keeps him at bay for the good of Kan Diona. I must keep a firm grip on him and his family, while keeping my distance. I don't want to ruin my family." I approached Baro. He put down his mug with the brew onto the table and his arms wrapped around me. Strong and warm. "However, who would have thought then that you'd join my household. Love works in mysterious ways."
"Well, I—you just had to conquer me." He laughed.
I put my fingers to his lips. "I led you to the place to belong, that's all."
He nodded and kissed my fingers. "Thank you, Falaha."
My hand slipped to his chest. "Now let's finish here and go to the Eaters. They're checking our gear already."
His grip on me became stronger. He bowed down and whispered into my ear, "Can't we stay like this for another moment? Longer?"
I smiled. "Here? In the kitchen?"
"Do you want to relocate?" Another gentle whisper and I felt his warm breath on my neck.
"And here they are!" Orewen barged into the kitchen.
"Stop ruining my important moments!" Baro barked out, provoked. I laughed. He let me go.
"Eh? You've been going strong all night," Orewen continued, refusing to give up his teasing. "Save your stamina for some exploration! Or do you expect us to drag you around then?" And whispered in his usual sexy low baritone, "I can do this all day... and night. And maybe another day..." A subtle shade of red colored Baro's face.
