"Same old Sky High, nothing exciting ever happens here." Sian (The best friend) turned to look at me, flicking a piece of light blue hair out of her eyes as we walked towards the cafeteria, first day back and we've already fallen into the routine. Awesome.

"You can't really say that after that chick went psycho and tried to recruit the villains, I mean, that was pretty exciting." The girl has a point, some chick in her parents grad class was set on turning some kids evil or something, she went missing before graduation though, never really knew what happened to her. "Earth to Darcy... anybody home?" Sian nudged me slightly - although slightly for her being not-so-slight-at-all considering the whole 'super strength' thing - meaning I tripped over my own shoes and hit the wall with quite a thud.

"Ouch... sorry D..." I waved away her apology and smiled, rubbing my shoulder after she looked away. Super strength is not something I was gifted with, neither was quick healing it seems, no I get water as my 'power'. It totally doesn't count, I mean come on, I can create water with a tap too, but I can freeze it, I can control it, create it, blah, blah, blah. Apparently it's a useful enough power to be counted as a superhero, if I'm honest, I'd prefer it in the sidekicks, they get less complicated work, like why do I need to know how to build a Freeze Ray when I can freeze someone with my bare hands?

"So, Homecoming." I groaned and gestured at the moving line to get to the food that meant so much more to me than homecoming. Why is that even a thing, I'm not home, home is where my wifi connects automatically, Sky High doesn't even have wifi. "Oh, come on, D, you didn't go last year either! I need someone to talk to or I'll end up having to dance with that creeper again, the one with the stretchy arms, god he can't keep them to himself."

I laughed at her as she shuddered. "See, that is exactly why I don't want to go, I don't dance, and I don't want to end up stuck with some guy who thinks he's Gods gift to women when he's just a prepubescent lemur who has no idea how bad he looks." Sian grinned at me, shaking her head slightly as we sat down in a corner of the room, behind the beams where all the Freshmen sit, most people didn't even know there were tables here which is why it was our preffered placement.

"Just stay for an hour? I'll pay you." I choked on the bite of pasta I'd taken and began to tell her that you can't pay people to go places (although if that payment included buying me coffee then I would consider it) when a resounding bang echoed through the hall. "...What was that?" I shrugged and got up to invesigate, walking to stand at the side of the beams with Sian trailing behind me, hiding slightly despite her having the upper hand in any hand to hand combat that might take place.

"Oh, Freshman troubles." A dark haired kid was sprawled out on the floor looking rather pitiful if I'm honest, at the feet of some guy with dark hair that he'd grown out to his shoulders. "I'd hate to be that kid, the dude looks like he's just about ready to kill." Maybe something interesting will happen this year, I could've spoken to soon.

"Hey isn't that the war and peace guy?" I turned to look at Sian, my eyebrows creased together with half a smile on my lips. She shrugged and blushed a little. "I'm serious, I think his name's War and Peace... or something..."

"Why do the kids here have such weird names?" Sian huffed and I heard a muffled my name's not weird before everything kicked off. The kid on the floor was backing away from this 'War and Peace' guy while the dude in questions arms spontaneously combusted before he began throwing fireballs at the kid. Okay, I'll admit that's kinda cool.

I started filling up my palms with water, letting it run over my fingers and collect into a ball, getting ready to throw it at the flame monkey until Sian grabbed my arm - being careful to be gentle - and pulled me back behind the beam. "Don't, he's not aiming for the kid, he's trying to scare him." I frowned slightly but after watching for a few more seconds I realized she was right, he had every opportunity to hit the kid, I mean he wasn't exactly hiding well so the guy could've landed like five hits by now.
