Ms Powers wasn't best pleased when I turned up an hour after curfew - totally not my fault, I got lost and couldn't remember where Jamie lived and he was the only person I know who can fly - not like I couldn't get home myself but I didn't want to give someone a spontaneous shower while they were walking their dog or some shit. In the end I found a random forest and used water to propel myself back to Sky High - turns out I can make the water evaporate before it hits the ground, who knew?
"Darcy are you even listening to me?" Lottie - the sophomore who lives in the room next to mine - had found me heating my food up in the kitchen and instantly began ranting to me for the next half an hour. Apparently Ms Powers had come in and grilled her about where I was for almost twenty minutes when I'd gone for food - I told her she could have some but she wouldn't leave it. "Darcy!"
"Truthfully? No, I stopped listening about twenty seconds after you opened your mouth." Lottie stood there for a minute, her mouth flopping open and closed as she probably debated whether to argue or leave, eventually she left, muttering about me being "Unbelievable" or something. I thought she'd never leave.
I'd ended up wandering around the school hallways for a while, my box of Chinese in my hand. I haven't seen Mr Medulla in a while, might go pay him a visit. He's usually working late anyway - that man takes more pleasure in learning than anyone I've ever met. I turned the corner that led to the science hallway and found the door of his lab wide open. "Mr Medulla?" Sticking my head round the doorframe showed an empty room, he's probably gone to get food or something. Shrugging, I walked in and, eyeing up a set of precariously stacked test tubes with clear piping strung between them, perched myself on a lab table across from it.
I finished my food and closed the carton, throwing the empty box at the trash can. Clearly, my aim was off and it ended up bouncing off and landing some three feet away. "Of course..."
"I hope you're intending to pick that up." I started slightly at the noise, but quickly smiled and greeted the professor. "Off the table." I rolled my eyes and hopped off with a sigh, heading towards the trash and putting the takeout box in it. "How're your studies going?"
"It's only the first day! And I missed out on the afternoons lessons because I was in that god awful White Room." Mr Medulla glanced up from his test tubes where he'd taken up residence, a small frown on his face.
"Yes, Principal Towers told me. She seemed to think I'd know where you'd disappeared to, although judging by that," he nodded his head towards the garbage can where my food carton was peeking out, "it's pretty obvious where you went."
"To be fair," I walked over to the bin an pushed the carton further in, can't have Ms Powers seeing that. "I went to the 7/11 first." Mr Medulla smirked, dropping a few drops of blue liquid into the top of the test tubes. I walked around to where he was, being careful to let him know where I was. "What are you doing?"
He glanced sideways at me before looking back at his work. "Behind the line, please." I sighed and stepped behind the tape on the floor. "Its something I've been trying to get to work, sort of a repressor."
I leaned forward a little, interested now. "A repressor of what?" Mr Medulla smiled slightly.
"So curious..." was it me or was that... fondness... in his voice? Aww he's fond of me. I fucking knew it. "It's a repressor of superpowers."
"Whoa, that could be so useful during fights! Like you could make bombs and throw them at the villains and BAM they're incapable of doing anything! Easily taken out! Gosh sir, you're a genius!"
Mr Medulla smiled at me, a slight rosy tint to his skin. "I know. But thank you." D'aw he's so cute. "Why aren't you in your room? Curfew was an hour ago."
I frowned, glancing at my phone. "Oh yeah... You might want to talk with Lottie about that, she was out of her bedroom too, she's a bad influence I tell you!" Mr Medulla smirked, snorting a little and he leaned away from his work, pushing his goggles up.
"Yes, she's clearly the bad influence here." I smiled at him, looking overly innocent. I even swung my arms a little. "Bed."
"But sir-"
"Bed." I huffed, picking up my jacket from where I'd left it and walked out of the room, muttering about how unfair it was that I had a bedtime at almost eighteen before rethinking it and almost running back to the lab.
Mr Medulla looked up at my entrance, quirking an eyebrow and moving away from the chem set. "Something wrong?"
"Forgot to say goodnight." With that I quickly enveloped him in a hug, feeling his hand reluctantly pat my shoulders - believe me, that's practically being spun around in circles by him - before grinning up at him and going back towards the dorms, calling a "Night, sir!" Over my shoulder, and hearing a distinct chuckle echo down the hall.
