*8 Months Later*

*Candace’s POV*

Michael and I have become so much more stronger, and so much more closer. We are inseparable. One thing I’m still shocked about is that the press doesn’t know we’re together. No one does… except his family. Actually, to come and think about it, the paparazzi and the tabloids have backed off of Michael. I could tell he was enjoying it while he could. Anyways, Michael had a few meetings coming up to discuss a new album. But the thing is, he had NO IDEA what this album was going to be about. He had no motivation, no inspiration. I felt bad for him, because I didn’t wanna see his career go down. I was slightly worried, but Michael’s a GENIUS. He ALWAYS came up with good ideas. I needed to talk to him to try to get his spirits up. I also needed to talk to him about another thing..

“Mickey..” I peered into our room. He was lying in bed sleeping. He needed to wake up to go to that meeting. “Baby, you gotta get up. You have a meeting in 2 hours.” I calmly said.

“Candace, I can’t. I just can’t.” He said weakly.

“What’s the matter?” I asked as I sat on the edge of the bed next to him.

“I dunno. I’m just not feeling like myself today. Something’s not right. Something’s off.”

“Okay Sweetie.” I said sadly. “Well I’m going to the store to pick up some groceries for tonight. I’m gonna make you a special dinner.” I said smiling. He chuckled.

“Okay baby. Be safe. Take all the time you need. I love you.” He said sweetly.

“I love you too Michael. So much.” I said while walking out the door.

“WAIT!” He shouted weakly. “Come back. We need to talk.”

“Sure, what’s up?” I asked curiously.

“Well, I was going to wait, I just wish this was a better moment, but I just cannot wait any longer.” He reached to his table drawer, and pulled out a red velvet box. My eyes INSTANTLY got wider.

“Oh my God.” I thought I said it in my head, but it came out.

“Baby…” he started.

I was getting all emotional, wow.

“Candace-Marie, I have known you for only 3 years, and we’ve only dated for 8 ½ months, but I know for a fact that I want to spend my entire life with you. Words can’t explain how I feel. I adore you. So much. I love waking up next to you, hearing the birds sing to us every morning. I love our late night walks through the park. Baby, I’ve created so many happy and wonderful memories with you, and I don’t ever want them to stop coming. Candace-Marie Jones, will you do the honor of accepting this ring, and becoming my wife?” He opened the box that revealed the gorgeous ring.

“Oh my God.” I said again. I was in full-fledged tears now. He loved me and wanted to be with me for the rest of his life. I was speechless. But I knew one word, and I knew it perfectly. “YES!!!” I blurted out. “Yes, yes yes yes yes yes yes yes I will!”

I was getting married. To the man of my dreams. My best friend whom I loved dearly.

“Oh Candy, …” he hugged me so tight. He took the ring out of the box and slid it on my left hand. It was beautiful. I kissed him so hard, I couldn’t believe this was happening! “Oh wow… “ was all I could think.

“Okay, babe.” He laughed.

I hugged him tight once more, then took off to the store. Not before saying I loved him, of course. And a kiss.

*Michael’s POV*

“Wow. After 8 ½ months, I finally did it. I proposed to Candace. She was going to be my wife.” I thought to myself. But suddenly, I was feeling better. I decided that I COULD go to that meeting. I showered and dressed in about 45 minutes. I still had an hour and 15 minutes to go.

Just then, my phone rang. I looked at it. It was Candace.

“Hello, my wife.” I said.

“…Michael…” she said shyly.

I laughed. “What’s up, baby?” I asked.

“I’m on my way to another store, is there anything you would like me to pick up for you, my husband?”

I smiled at the word ‘husband’. “uhmmm, no. I’m fine. But thank you.” I said.

“Oh my God, Michael!” she yelled excitedly.

“Yes!?” I said laughing.

“Guess what song just came on the radio?”

“Lemme guess…” I said. “Is it… Boogie Fever?” I said laughing.

“No! Baby, Lady In My Life is playing. This is our song..”

“Awhhhh , you remembered!” I said softly.

“Of course I did. How could I forget? I remember when you first sang this to me…” she said.

“Ooooh, good times, huh?” I asked.

She started to sing:

Lay back in my tenderness

You are the Lady In My Life

Rock me with your sweet caress

You are the Lady In My Li—

She stopped singing and screamed. I heard a big bang, then multiple bangs.

“CANDACE? CANDY! ANSWER ME BABY! CANDACE!” I yelled into the phone. No answer. The oddest thing was that I still heard the radio. This could not be good. I just knew it wasn’t.

“Candace, baby. Please answer me.” I cried softly. I dropped to the floor, and began sobbing. I already knew what just happened, but I just didn’t want to believe it.

“Baby…” I was still saying her name. I was NOT leaving her.

I heard sirens in the background, and I just lost it. Still keeping the phone glued to my ear, I ran downstairs, crying. I yelled out for Frank. I found him. He looked concerned.

“Michael! You alright?” he asked.

“No, Frank. Candace just got into an accident. WHILE TALKING TO ME. ON THE FUCKING PHONE. IN MY FUCKING EAR!” I yelled. “Now, she’s not responding to my calling her name. I keep saying her name, but she’s not saying anything! Why won’t she say anything, Frank!?” I sobbed.

“Wait, she was on the phone while driving?!”

“Impossible. I told her I didn’t like that, so I got a hands-free device installed in her car. WITH HEADSETS! She should’ve heard me calling her Frank!” I yelled towards the end.

“Is she still on?” he asked, pointing to the phone.

“Yes.” I simply stated.

“Put it on speaker.”

I did so. Just then, I heard a police officer yelling, “Hello! Can you hear me young lady?” he sees her.

“She has a device in her ear!”

“Check it out!” I heard someone farther away say.

Just then, I heard a voice.

“Hello? Is there anyone on this line?” he asked.

“Yes! My name is Michael. I was talking to my fiancée while she was on the way to the store… and she crashed.” I said trailing off at the end.

I looked at Frank’s face, and his eyes were WIDE. “Fiancée?” he mouthed.

I gestured that I’d tell him later.

“Okay,” the officer said. “Well, she’s unresponsive, so we’ll have to escort her to the hospital.”

“Okay, just tell me where.” I said worried.

“Grand Hospital.” He said. “That’s the closest one.”

“I’ll be there ASAP.” I said and hung up the phone. Frank and I hopped into the car, and took off. The ride was silent the whole ride there.
