Hola readers :3 I apologize for the suckiness of chapter 1, but i promise this one is better. And weirder. yay! :D
Madison's POV
As soon as all of our things were off of the train, it sped of again and looked as if was going to crash into a building, but disappear just before they could collide. I had no idea who controlled the trains, or if the train had a mind of its own, but I was not interested in finding out. A chubby guard met us at the gate. The gate was much taller than necessary, and looked to be made out of solid gold, seeing no evidence of paint. The man was eating a doughnut and with a full mouth attempted to say something.
“I wahrat skaj yraws.”
“Excuse me?” He swallowed and tried again.
“I'll have to see your ID.” Chase had said nothing about some sort of ID. I was even wondering if he had one.
“What are you talking about? We don't need any ID!”
“How do you know?” He took another mouth full of doughnut.
“I see people coming through the gate all of the time and they've never been asked for ID. In fact, nobody even came down to ask! The gates just opened.”
“Were you standing near Culverton's?” I had no idea what Culverton's had to do with anything, and Chase seemed to feel the same way. Maybe he was just trying to edge us on? Who knew.
“Culverton's is on the other side of town...”
“You may come in.” Chase looked at the man as if he were completely insane. I wouldn't disagree. “It's a new system we're trying out. We figure a person from the Dark society trying to get in wouldn't know much about the city or the whereabouts of certain places. They certainly wouldn't know that we don't ask for ID when you enter.” Chase looked as if he were about to laugh directly in the man's face, but instead just gave him a smile.
“I doubt that's true.”
“Oh yeah?” The man was tried size him up, but that obviously wasn't working. Chase was almost half of a foot taller, and looked much stronger than the man, despite him being half his age. “You have any better ideas?”
“As a matter of fact, I do. Why don't you actually give everyone an ID?”
“What will happen to the new citizens?”
“Get a visitors pass from the city, then have an ID made for them.”
“What if you just so happened to loose this ID in a different realm?”
“Record the names of the people who leave each day, cross there names off when they return.”
“What if you lose it while in the city?”
“Request a new one. Your name's already on file.” The man narrowed his eyes at Chase, and Chase narrowed his eyes as well just to get a reaction from him.
“Why don't you two just move along?”
“I think we will.” He led me through the gates with a smile on his face and with new confidence in his eyes. His system didn't seem like a bad idea, but he had such quick comebacks it made me wonder if he had thought about this before. And how did he know that people from the Dark society may know the town? I was going to ask him along the way.
Chase's POV
Walking through the streets, I felt proud about actually telling someone my ideas about protecting the city. They used to just let anyone through who appeared without even seeming to care. Maybe now they'd do something about it, or even better, I may get some type of reward for giving the idea. Not that I needed the money.
