Chapter 4
Travis frustrates the cult
Travis's POV
I had to search the middle of the store, which was occupied by a group of very shady people. Literally. They hid themselves in the shadows and mumbled things to one another while reading an ancient looking book. Everything on the shelves had been carelessly thrown across the room and replaced with bottles, other books, and pendants, all with the same symbol on them. The closer I got, the more the strange symbol appeared. It was carved into shelves, cut into people, and written all over the leather binding of the books.
'What are these people doing?' I thought to myself.
“Do you suppose he is lost?” One whispered to another who was dressed in much more black than the rest. I figured she was the leader.
“They are all lost, are they not?”
“Indeed.” They all said at different times, but nodding in sync.
“I'm looking for-”
“A new way of thinking? A new world to live in? You have come to the right place,my friend. Please, take a seat.”
“Actually what I meant by 'looking for' was-”
“Ah. I understand, say no more. You wish to find a better place? A place with no judgment... everyone is treated the same?”
“I guess that'd be kinda nice...”
“Then join us, child. Join Him and all of this, and more, is easily within your grasp.”
“More?” Whoa... It's like those annoying infomercials. Just pay shipping and handling! :D Anyways....
“Yes. Much more. Beyond you wildest dreams. Everything you ask for will come if you stay loyal to him."
“Who is this “he”? Is he going to steal me things or what?” She had a laugh about this and everyone shyly followed. With the wave of her hand they were all silenced.
“His greatness does not steal. He takes from those who have taken from him. His greatness has no birth name, so we refer to Him as such.” These people talked weird... But if this “Him” could get me things, I was all for it. My question was how and why. Did He just want friends? Hm.
“What sort of things does He give?”
“Everything and anything described in the ancient text.” She shoved forward the cut up book. The pages were yellow with age and look like they'd crumble if you so much as touched them, and was the biggest book I had ever seen that I was actually interested in reading. The plot must be amazing for the author to need this many pages to tell the whole story. I flipped the leather cover over and started to read.
The story of Him, It and Them.
Long before the existence of everything that is known, there were Them. They were the ones who started it all. Some may call them Gods, though the creation of everything was a accident on their part, and they all tried to destroy what they had created afterward. Except one. I call the Him the Holy One. In the beginning there were 9, each responsible for the creation of the known species in the universe and beyond.
“He seems intrigued. Do you suppose he shall join us?” One asked the leader again.
“Sh. Let him read.”
The creation of everything was simply an accident. No fairies, elves, goblins, etc have any idea how something as huge as the making of multiple universes, realms, and parallel universes could have been an accident, but obviously this was so. They felt threatened by their own kind, frightened that they would some day rise up. They set out to kill us all. Then, out of the shadows came the Holy One, giving words of wisdom to the crazed beings, convincing Them to leave their own species be. The Holy One has forever been protecting every species in every realm across the endless universe.
