Marauder Detention

Peter looked startled at McGonagall's sudden appearance.
"Mr Lupin, you were just about to give them detention right?" McGonagall giving Remus a soft but stern look. Lupin just blinked and stared from McGonagall to his fellow Marauders and back again.
"Yes" he said unsurely.
"Thank you for trying to keep your friends under control. For that, I will allow you to decide on their punishment. I knew there was no mistake on making you a prefect"
"Um, ok?"
McGonagall turned and walked away with Snape-who was covered in bruises and scrapes along with a bloody nose-close behind. Remus watched them disappear down the corridor slightly holding his breath when Sirius spoke first.
"Well Moony? What's it going to be?" Sirius asked with a slight quiver in his voice. Remus then realized for the first time how much power he had over his only friends. However, he had no intention of using them.
   "I don't know. It can't be lines because that won't have a good effect and McGonagall will know that I'm defending you" He had no idea what to do. "And I don't want you to hate me because I have you guys an unforgiving detention" He was talking more to Sirius than the others.
   "Moony, like I said in our first year when I called you Moony for the first time, 'We are going to become great friends' and we did! And nothing's going to stop that. Give us whatever detention you want. We won't care," he looked at James and Peter "will we?". James and Peter shook their heads.
    "Alright, see you in the Great Hall. I have to take care of a few things first" Remus told them before walking away.
    He walked past them wishing he wasn't the one that had to punish them. Lupin nearly ran to the hospital wing without thinking of the directions, for he had been there many times before from James's and Sirius's Quidditch And prank injuries. Remus nearly collided with McGonagall on his way in.
"Professor!" Remus said surprised.
"Watch it Mr. Lupin. You don't want to run over your Transfiguration Professor" McGonagall said calmly.
"Er... Sorry Professor"
    "That's quite alright. Now, have you decided what Mr. Potter, Black, And Pettigrew's detention will be?"
    "Um yes, that's what I came to inform you about". He and McGonagall began walking down the corridor. "I was think that their detention was going to be polishing the trophies in the trophy room"
    "Sounds, fair. When will it be taking place?"
    "After supper every night until it's done"
   "Alright, I will be their to check in on you four tonight"
    "Ok". Remus let McGonagall continue down the corridor as he turned to go to the Great Hall for his evening meal.
    He met James, Sirius, and Peter there and explained what their detention was going to be.
    "Sounds easy enough, and with all of us together, how bad can it be?" James said.
    Remus left early to make sure he could get the supplies ready for their detention. He gathered four buckets from Filch's office as well as a cloth for each one. As usual, he could hear James and Sirius cracking jokes 10 minutes before they even arrived.
    "Alright. Let's get started!" James said grabbing a cloth and a bucket. "Um, Remus? Where's the water?"
    "Well, I thought we could practice the water summoning Charm That Professor Flitwick told us to work on" Remus replied.
    "Oh...I guess we could do that" Peter said glumly.
"Cheer up Wormtail, at least Moony put us in the same detention. Now we can get this done three times as fast!" James said encouragingly.
"Make that four times as fast. I thought I should help too since I didn't really do anything to stop you guys from picking on Severus" Remus added.
"Thanks Moony!" Sirius exclaimed.
"Well, how long do we have this detention?" Peter asked.
"Every night after supper until we finish" Remus said.
"Then lets get working!" James told them. "Aguamenti!"
    Everyone copied (Peter with some difficulty) and began cleaning. They were so busy talking and laughing at each other's jokes that they didn't even notice McGonagall smiling as she left the Trophy Room. Around 1:00 in the morning, they finished without even realizing the time, and headed back to Gryffindor Tower when someone yelled.
    "REMUS JOHN LUPIN!" Lily Evans was storming straight towards them and was clearly not in a good mood.
