The Baby's Coming!

Kai slumped his head into his palm, staring blankly at the conference notes in front of him. All around him, world leaders snapped and bickered, complaining about this or that, but Kai's mind wasn't on the meeting. Instead, his mind wandered to Cinder, and the baby that was due any day now. His stomach fluttered with nerves at the thought of Cinder giving birth, he'd read only too many articles about the horrible things that sometimes happened in childbirth. Then again, Scarlet had already had two children, and she was fine. Even delicate Winter had already had a baby girl, and nothing happened to her...

"Emporer Kaito, what are your opinions on the matter of regolith trading and distribution?"

Kai jerked his head up at the sound of his name, and his bleary eyes finally landed on President Vargas looking at him curiously.

"They baby- oh um I mean the Commonwealth should..." Kai trailed off, eyes flicking to Torin helplessly.

There are some snickers around the table, and Kai felt his ears redden to the color of Scarlet's hoodie.

Torin discreetly holds up three fingers, and Kai quickly looks down at his notes to point 3.

Clearing his throat, he oppened his mouth to start. "The Commonwealth believes..."

There's a loud squeak of hinges as the door opens, revealing a woman with work boots under her kimono, messy hair, and a very swollen belly.

"CINDER!" Kai burst up from his seat like it was on fire. "What's wrong?!!"

Cinder looked at him, a teasing smile playing on her lips. Then suddenly, her lips thinned as she pressed them until they were white, pas she pressed a hand on her stomach.

"They're coming." She said calmly, leaning against the doorframe.

The table erupts into titters, and Kai scrambles over next to her. "OH STARS OH MY STARS ARE YOU OKAY IT'S GOING TO BE OKAY DON'T WORRY YOUR PRETTY LITTLE HEAD OH UHHHH-"

Cinder pressed a finger to his lips, rolling her eyes. "Calm down. You're making a fool of yourself."

"I DON'T CARE THE BABY'S COMING WHAT DO WE DO-"

Queen Camilla coughed pointedly, and Kai whirled to see her share a knowing smile with Cinder before turning to him. "Maybe you should start with getting your wife to the hospital wing. I don't think the baby's going to sit around and wait for your panic attack to be over."

"Hospital! Right! We're going to need a stretcher!"

Cinder looked at him, annoyed. "I don't need a stretcher Kai, I can walk!"

"Nonsense. You're going on a stretcher like a proper patient!" Kai leaned next to Cinder and pressed a blue button on the wall behind her. Out of nowhere, a tile flipped up, revealing a stretcher embedded into a cubby in the wall behind Cinder.

Mouth open, Cinder said, "You're frighteningly prepared." She broke off, her face going white, sweat sheening on her brow.

"You have no idea. In the stretcher, now." He ordered, pulling the rolling stretcher out from the wall, a flourished a hand in an "after you" like gesture.

Glaring at Kai, Cinder sat on the stretcher. She gasped, and moaned urgently, pressing her hands to her abdomen,"Hurry!"

"MAKE WAY! BABY COMIN' THROUGH!" Kai barreled out of the conference room, his hands on the stretchers, Cinder holding on for dear life.

"KAI! WATCH OUT!" Cinder screeched as he sprinted through the hallways, dodging people left and right.

"QUEEN GIVING BIRTH OUT OF THE WAY! Don't worry dear, you'll be fine."
