Chapter 6

"Marcus, you can't let them treat you like that!" Lily complained.

Today they had done it again, the mean people at school. They had decided that it was time for them to make my life a bit worse. They had stolen my jacket and my shoes. At the moment it hadn't bothered me much, it wasn't like it was the worst thing they had done to me and I had other jackets and other shoes at home. But now, as I was walking home in the snow, they cold winter air made it a bit harder for me not to be bothered. Lily had offered me her jacket, but of course I couldn't take it, then she would be cold.

"It doesn't matter Lily, I don't care about them," I said, knowing that she probably didn't believe a word I was saying.

I was honest though. I had learned not to care, I had gotten used to it. Maybe getting used to being bullied isn't such a great thing, but I had discovered that it was easier not to care.

"But it does matter! You are so much better than them and you should show them that they can't treat you like your nothing!" Lily kept complaining.

"And how am I supposed to do that?"

"I don't know, get some payback for once or something!"

"So you suggest that I should start bullying them, to... make them stop bullying me..?"

That shut her up and we were quiet during the rest of the way home.

By the time we got to my house, my socks had gotten soaking wet by the snow. And because of the cold temperature, they had turned into ice and I was unable to feel my own toes. I wasn't even sure if they were still on my feet or not, maybe some of them had fallen off on the way home.

The first thing we did as we got into the house was to make hot chocolate and Lily practically buried me in blankets to make sure I wasn't cold anymore.

"You sure you're okay?" she asked, worried.

"I'm fine, I p-promise," I answered, shaking a bit. "It wasn't that cold outside, it was pretty... nice," I lied.

"Oh really? Is that why you're still shaking?" she asked and raised an eyebrow, teasing me.

She knew how much I hated it when people could raise one eyebrow. Mostly because I wasn't able to do it. No matter how hard I tried, I just ended up looking very stupid.

"I'm not s-shaking," I said glaring at her and cursing myself for stuttering because of shaking so much.

"Wait, maybe you're not." She looked seriously at me." Maybe non of this is really happening and the world is just an illusion!" she said sarcastically.

"I hate you."

"You love me, I'm amazing. Come on, let's go upstairs."

As we upstairs walked up the stairs to the second floor, Lily suddenly stopped me.

"Did you hear that?" she asked.

"Hear what?" I hadn't heard anything.

CRASH!

"That," she said and we both ran up the stairs.

The crash had come from my room, so we immediately ran there and when we saw what had happened, we weren't just a little bit shocked.

It was destroyed. Everything was destroyed. My window was crashed, my clothes were thrown around all over the room, some of them were even ripped apart. My homework, which had been laying neatly on my desk as I left for school this morning, was now completely destroyed and pages from my books were laying everywhere. My pillows were ripped open and the feathers from them made my room look even worse.

"Wh...Who did this?" Lily asked, still shocked.

"I...I have no idea.."

BANG!

That sound came from the outside the window, so we both ran there, hoping that we might get to see who was guilty of my room disaster.

And we did.

In the tree, which was very close to the window sat one of the mean people.

The mean people at school.

Another one of them were laying on the ground next to the tree and I assumed that he had been the one to cause the 'bang' by falling off the tree. On the ground a third and a fourth member of the mean people were standing. They looked very stressed and it was obvious that they wanted to get out of here as soon as possible, to not get caught. None of them had seen me and Lily. Yet.

"Hey!! What the heck do you think you're doing?!?!" Lily screamed, making four heads turn towards us.

The three boys on the ground looked terrified as they realized they had been caught and ran away as fast as they could, leaved the fourth one in the tree behind. The guy in the tree was so shocked by Lily's sudden scream he fell off the tree. He quickly stood up again before he started running after his friends.

"No! Wait! Come back here!!! Now we can't prove that you did this!! Couldn't we have gotten a picture of you or something else to use as proof?!?" Lily screamed after them, as if she was expecting them to come back to let her take a picture of them to give to the police.

Lily and I turned around from the window to look at the mess, that was my room.

"I'm so sorry, Marcus."

"Don't apologize, it's not you're fault." I said and we were quiet for a while, until Lily broke the silence again.

"You know.." she began. "You'll have to tell you mom about this. It was okay to keep it a secret before. I get that you didn't want her to know about the bullying, because you didn't think she could do anything to help and all that stuff. But this... You can't hide this. And more important, you can't let them get away with this."

"I don't care about them. And I don't have to tell her, we can clean it up, right? You'll help me and we can fix it before she gets home, I know we can," I said, looking pleadingly at her.

"I'm sorry Marcus, but it's time that you tell her, I think she might be able to help you if you tell her how serious it is. And... If you don't tell her..." I knew what was coming. "... I will...."

"Lily, please don't. I beg you. Please..." I knew I wouldn't be able to change her mind, but I still tried.

"I think I should go now..." she said, starting to walk out of my room. "Promise me you'll talk to your mom, or else... I will. I'm sorry, but I just want what's best for you, Marcus."

"I promise," I said, giving up.

Now, afterwards, I regret that I gave up.
