Drops bled across the glossy window in the dark of the night. Falguni's fingers danced along their path, watching her reflection. A pair of chocolate brown orbs, full and plump lips, elongated neck, dancing tresses of hair sitting on her shoulders. Droplets of water distorted her image as she studied it with an occasional smile.
Her apartment was always empty. The tight space would make her insides turn, so there was a bed, a couch and maybe a table. The walls were painted a shabby, bare colored grey. Bright colors made her uncomfortable.
She was alone, well, except for Aisha Didi.
"There you are, Falguni Didi! I was waiting for so long! You're not supposed to be outside at night," she exclaimed, slumping onto the couch beside her.
She was silent, completely silent. Her gaze followed the thousands of tears falling from the sky in the dimly lit room.
"Kya Hua Didi?"
Silence.
Aisha's palm fell against Falguni's shivering hand. Its contact felt like a thousand needles piercing into her skin. Squirming, she threw Aisha's palm off of her and huddled within herself.
"Sorry Didi," Aisha murmured, guiltily staring at Falguni's pale face. She stared blankly at the window again. A thought danced in her mind, pulling at the strings of her palpating heart.
"Mama ka phone aaya. I told her you were out and you'd call when you arrived home."
"She told me not to call, Aisha."
Falguni ran her fingers against her satin skirt, sighing deeply. Her nose twitched as she watched herself from the window once more.
"What happened Didi? Kuch Toh bhol!"
Falguni pressed her finger against her nose, rubbing up and down to ease the tension. She pressed her eyes together, blinking harshly.
"I met Mr. Shahid today."
Aisha's eyes lit up, her cheeks burning a bright pink. She twirled a lock within her fingers, smiling timidly.
"That's the window boy isn't is," she chuckled, watching Falguni's cheeks light ablaze. She giggled at herself softly, running her palm over her nose.
