Lauren and Dani Cimorelli walk into Youth Group together, like they always did, and saw their older sister Amy already sitting at a table with her friends. Amy waves at her younger siblings and they wave back before sitting at another table, leaving a chair between them for their friend that hadn't arrived yet.
Dani makes small talk with the other people at the table while Lauren keeps to herself, thinking about other things. She would say something here and there so people wouldn't think too much of her silence but her sister knew her better.
Lauren felt her phone vibrate in her jeans pocket so she pulls it out to see a text from Dani.
'You alright Sugar?'
She looks up to see that Dani was already looking at her, worry evident on her face. Lauren nods yes but doesn't say anything, her mind still elsewhere. Dani was about to move over into the empty chair when one of their 'friends' walks in and slumps into the chair, clear that she wasn't in a good mood.
Lauren is thankful for the distraction because she knew that Dani would talk to Angie and hopefully forget about Lauren's current state.
"Hey, Angie," Lauren says, putting on a fake smile to the red-haired girl.
"Yeah, hey," she replies, picking up her fork and playing with the food that was on her plate.
"Hey, have you seen Kara? She's usually here by now," Dani says, looking around for her best friend.
"Can you stop breathing on my food?" Angie says coldly through gritted teeth.
"What? I'm not breathing on your food?" Dani questions, backing away from her slightly. Lauren looks on confused but doesn't say anything.
"Um, yeah you are so can you like stop?" Angie says sassily, aggressively putting down her fork on her plate to face Dani completely.
"No, this is breathing on your food," Dani says jokingly leaning down and blowing gently on Angie's plate while Lauren stifles her laughter with a cough. When Dani sits back up straight, her face is met with Angie's cold hand in a loud slap.
Dani freezes, her smile slowly falling from her face while Lauren puts her phone down on the table. She looks at Angie, rage boiling in her eyes.
"Listen here, Angela. You do not slap my sister, any of them, alright? Never do that again!" she says, keeping her voice low but you could tell she was really mad. She pulled Angela's chair closer to her and further away from Dani who was still frozen, watching the scene unfold in front of her. "You do not lay a finger on her unless she gives you her consent, alright? Don't touch my little sister like that ever, ever again!"
"Jeez, it's not that big of a deal," Angela shrugs, trying to discreetly move her chair away from Lauren, but Lauren had an iron grip on the back of her chair.
"It is a big deal, don't touch her ever again. Are we clear?" Lauren asks, moving closer to Angela's face to whisper in her ear, a fire still evident in her eyes.
"Maybe I should just go just go," Angela says, trying to pull away from Lauren.
"Yeah, I think you should," Dani says, finally coming back to reality.
Lauren lets go of Angela's chair and watches her leave, glaring the entire time. She sees the door shut behind her and quickly averts her eye back to Dani.
"You okay, Dan?" she asks, rage leaving her eyes and being replaced by concern for her little sister. When Dani doesn't say anything, Lauren moves into the chair Angela left Vacant and hugged the 16-year-old that was her baby sister.
"Thanks for standing up for me, Laur," Dani says, enjoying the comfort her sister's arms held.
"Of course, Spice," Lauren says as she sees Amy stand up from the other side of the room and makes her way towards them.
"You guys okay? I saw what happened. Want me to go beat her up," Amy starts serious but quickly jokes as she puts her arms around her younger sister.
"It's ok, Ames. Sugar took care of it," Dani smiled and Lauren kissed the top of her head.
"Ouuu, sugar ain't so sweet is she?" Amy jokes before ruffling both of their hair and returning to her table.
"No, she's not," Dani says when Lauren lets go of the hug and lightly shoves the older girl who only rolls her eyes in response.
"No one hurts my baby sister."
