"How much longer until we reach a town?" Kali asked as she wiped away soaked baby hairs and the very few droplets of sweat from her forehead. The sky started changing into a nice mix of yellow and pink, the trees had gotten darker and the two had been sweaty from earlier's heat.

She was in loose running shorts that were tied tight around her waist and a tied oversized shirt, her sneakers old and dirty. Sam opted out for his usual shorts and a loosely buttoned shirt; of course he was barefoot and had his hair up.

It was her turn to drive down the long roads of empty fields as the best friends had a sudden need for adventure.

"Uhhh" Sammy looked over the old map, looking at it from different angles before admitting that he had no idea where they even where.

"Sammy!" She yelled out as she pulled over, slouching back into her seat in desperation. "It's getting dark I don't wanna be out in the middle of nowhere." Kali whined.

She knew it would've been easier if she was just able to use her phone but Sam decided to toss them into a bag in the back, he wanted no technology. She was fine with it at first but now hearing that Sam couldn't read the map freaked her out especially being in the middle of who knows here, how would they find a signal?

"Lemme see that." She reached her hand out as Sammy handed it over. She did the same as him: trying to look at it from different angles and having no luck. She didn't see anything helpful beyond their last stop. She huffed.  "Sammy."

"What?" He leaned over to her side looking over the map, "Find out yet?"

"No." She huffed as she crumbled it up into a ball. "That map is extremely dated so even if we did, it's no use." She sighed as she tossed it into the back of the van.

"Ok so what now?" He shrugged.

"We're gonna have to use our phones I guess. Get one out and I'll just drive till we get a signal." She nodded towards the back and Sam quickly hopped out the door, pulling open the van's back doors.

Normally he would've argued but she was right. Night would creep up and he knew driving in the dark of an unknown place wouldn't be a safe bet.

"Which bag did I put them in again?" He yelled out.

"Maybe mine?" She shifted in her seat as she looked back. He let out a small sound of victory as he found the phones, holding em in between his fingers as he slammed the doors shut. He turned them on as he made his way back to his side, hopping in and buckling himself up.

She quickly decided to change the music, looking through the small folder of old cds. Music softly played through the old van.

Being best friends of course he already knew her password, "Ok go." He grinned as he looked up on the tiny dock of her phone, waiting for any sort of signal to come up. She started the van again, driving and ready to stop when he said so.

A couple songs played before Sammy sat up in his seat, gently tapping her arm.

"Keep going, I'm getting something." He smiled in victory, the sky was a deep purple and navy, it would be completely dark soon. She nodded in response as she continued, even turning up the music as he yelled over it. "3 Miles and we'll hit a little town. A nice diner and a motel!"

"Remind me to never let you talk me into this again." She joked as she sipped away at her milkshake, playing with her drink as she stirred the straw around.

"It wasn't that bad." He gave her a look as he stuffed his mouth with the much desired burger. They sat across from one another in a diner's booth, making plans to see a couple sights while on the road.

"let's say we get stranded," she grinned, "what do we do?"

"Hunt for Bigfoot." he popped a fry into his mouth, shrugging. "Duh."

"Excuse me?" She raised an eyebrow, "We could be stranded- and you're still gonna try and look for that? Are you okay? How-"

"You know what, that'll be this summer's trip." He clapped his hands as he smiled.

"What-"

"Too late, it's been decided."

"Sammy no." She whined.

"Kali yes!"

"Well then you're going on that by yourself, count me out." Kali rolled her eyes at her best friend's nonsense.

"You'd really leave me, your poor bestfriend out by himself to hunt for a hairy beast?" He smirked, crossing his arms against his chest as he leaned back. He already knew the answer.

"No." She grumbled as she stared at her drink. "If you wanted a hairy beast you could just look for a fucking bear Sammy." She mimicked his actions as she looked across the diner.

He chuckled as he shook his head, looks like it was settled.
