Description:
Adair has always lived in Orphelin Bay, and she's always known that she is different to everyone else because she doesn't exactly age. That is, unless she's away from the water for too long. When the relatively new Tidelander, Dylan, stops ageing and becomes one of Adrielle's most trusted, Adair finds herself drawn to him.
Set before the events of "Tidelands".

Adair slams Lamar against the wall and holds the dagger to his throat, enough so that blood begins to trickle from the blade and down onto her hand. The one-eyed man stills in her hold and looks down at her warily. She is stronger than him by a mile, and she is proving that fact by keeping him restrained right now. Alongside that, she is Adrielle's third in command - third only to Dylan - and Lamar wouldn't put it past her to kill him. As that thought passes through the older man's head, Adair has a similar one.
"You keep sneaking around my home, and I will not hesitate to skin you alive," Adair threatens. "Or, better yet, I will lock you away from the water and watch you wither and rot like the filthy rat you are."
Lamar calls her bluff. "You wouldn't. Adrielle would kill you herself, and it wouldn't matter who your little mate is. That child will face the consequences of his actions by yours and your filthy sister's sides."
At the threat directed towards Kallan, Adair removes the dagger from Lamar's throat, only to stab it into his left shoulder. A cry of pain escapes him and hatred fills his eyes, almost matching that of the girl before him. The cry alerts Dylan, and he runs into the house, stopping short when he sees Lamar pinned against the wall by Adair. He slowly walks over to his lover and raises his hands in surrender when she turns her livid blue eyes to him, a sickening feeling pooling in his stomach at the lifelessness he sees in them.
"Adair, you have to let him go," Dylan orders softly, stopping a few steps from the two, his Brazilian accent thick as his worry rises. "As much as you hate him, Adrielle will kill you if you kill him. I refuse to lose you because of this fucking bullshit."
Adair's voice is a low growl when she responds. "He threatened my sister, and he threatened and insulted you. Tell me, Dylan, if I don't kill him, who will stop him from killing us all? All this fucker is going to do is end up destroying L'Attente and everyone in it."
