Bucky Barnes Imagine

Partners.

"James Buchanan Barnes, stop right now!" you raise your voice at Bucky, your best friend and crush who was dumping out all the clothes in the duffle bag you've packed.

"You're staying here!" he bellow, making you jump up, he has never yelled at you, not even once but today was different. Now both of you are staring at each other dead in the eye with tears brimming in your eyes.

A new HYDRA base has popped up on SHIELD'S radar, all of the Avengers were assigned to take the base down but this one was far different from other HYDRA base you've taken, it was heavily armed with more advanced weapons and mutated agents. Bucky obviously wanted you to stay, he didn't want you to get hurt or die, he loved you, he'd do anything to make sure you were safe and sound.

Tony's voice breaks the tension between you and Bucky through the comm in your room. "Avengers to the briefing room."

Your eyes now focused on the door behind Bucky, you pace towards the door and passes Bucky as your right shoulder bumping into his shoulder.  Presently, you bust open the doors of the briefing room with Bucky close behind, you took a seat as far away from Bucky as possible. Everybody's eyes widen as they saw the anger written across your face and Bucky's head hanging low, his hair shielding his face.

Your gaze fixed on the tablet you were given with all the last pieces of information on the mission. Bucky's gaze moving back and forth between you and the tablet through out the briefing, worry written across his face, thoughts of you getting hurt floods his mind but he shakes it off shortly after.

"All clear?" you analyze the list of partners on the tablet, your name written next to Bucky's. You look over your shoulder, where his eyes meets yours. You snapped when the flashback when he was yelling at you as if he was judging your ability to complete the mission replayed in your head, it made your blood boil, your own best friend couldn't even trust you on this mission.

When Steve was about to dismiss the briefing, your voice making its way to every corner in the room. "I would like to change partner, please."

"I would like for y/n to stay out of this one, please." Bucky's voice rings from your back. You shift you gaze to his direction, his blue orbs surrounded by a red sea, he's upset, he really hope that Steve would say yes to his request.

Steve looked puzzle for a moment before continuing, "I'm sorry Buck, I can't do that, we need each other on this one and you know it." he turns to you after saying to Bucky. "You can partner up with me, Nat, you're with Buck." he said to you and then Natasha. "We're leaving in 10, get what you need."

---time skip---

Presently, you're at the HYDRA base with all their firearm firing at you while you stood behind a tree and it's about to snap as it becomes thinner and thinner when every bullet hitting on the same spot of the tree. All of the others were trying their best to fight off as many of the agents as they were piling up, you pushed your lips together wanting to call out Bucky's name but you realize he was not your partner anymore. "Steve, a little help?" you press your finger against the comm in your ear.

"Hold on y/n!" Steve's voice crack through the comm with statics, he must be far, by the time he gets here, you're most probably already dead. 

"Hulk? anyone please--" you look up to the sky, seeking some hope. You feel the vibration of the bullets through the bark of the tree as shards of the tree flew pass your side. A deafening explosion pierced into your ears followed by you getting pulled behind a boulder nearby.

You slowly open your eyes, Bucky hovering over you, his eyes scanning your whole body making sure you were okay. "Are you hurt?" he asked with concern in his voice.

Your cheeks blush into a bright red, you realize how much he really cared about you, not just as a best friend, but it felt like something more. "I'm fine, thank you bear--" you paused. "And I'm sorry."

Before he gave you a respond, Hulk crashed next to you and Bucky. "y/n! smash?" he gestures to the army marching towards you guys.

"Smash." you sit up and gave him a reassuring nod. His lips curves upwards before he destroyed the tank heading your way.

You turn around to face Bucky who was now standing next to you making sure the coast is clear.

"Partners?" he reaches out a hand to help you up.

"Partners." 

He pulled you up with ease, pulling you close to him leaving no space in between, his lips instantly connecting to yours. His lips curved upwards on yours before continuing, "For life?"

"For life." you broke away to come up for oxygen while he places his forehead on yours.

"I love you y/n."

"I love you too Bucky."

"Hate to break up the tender moment, can you lovebirds help out a little here?" Steve's voice breaks through the comm, making you two giggle a little before getting back to work.
