Jimin grabbed a french fry off the plate of shared fries he and Jungkook had ordered
"You did so good tonight" Jungkook praised with a smile as he too grabbed a fry, "Yugyeom was pissed."
Jimin gave a small shrug "Yeah, well I'm just hope he doesn't put glass in my smoothie on Monday"
Jungkook smiled at that. "I love how you're not afraid of him."
"No, no, I'm terrified of him" Jimin corrected simply
"But you don't let him Steam roll all over you" Jungkook shook his head, swallowing a fry, "Like that day at school when he was being a beach about your boots."
"You remember that?"
"Yeah, course, I mean I couldn't say anything, cause we were together, but... I like the boots, I think it looks..kinda hot" Jungkook shifted slightly
Jimin scoffed
"Look, Yugyeom's gorgeous, but you have a way better style"
"Thank you" Jimin looked up at Jungkook shyly
Just then the waiter returned with their check. Jimin stood and was about to head for the door when Jungkook's phone went off.
Jungkook looked down to see Yugyeom had messaged him again. He knew this was the point, but it frustrated Jungkook
"He just makes me so mad sometimes" Jungkook huffed, putting his phone away without answering.
"We're still talking about him?" Jimin asked with a raised brow.
"Like tonight, he barely talks to me when we're at the party, then when we leave, I have a thousand text messages" Jungkook gestured to the pocket of his jeans where another buzz sounded from his phone.
Jimin shifted in place. He was looking down across the table from Jungkook who was still in his seat. "Okay well have you been responding?"
"No, I think I'm just gonna call him when I get home" Jungkook shook his head looking down at the mostly empty drink in front of him.
Jimin ignored the frustrated sweep of jealousy that washed over him, "So you guys still talk on the phone then" It was phrased as a question.
Jungkook looked up, "Well not as much as we used to"
Jimin couldn't find words that wouldn't be a snide remark so he just nodded his head slowly.
"What?" Jungkook huffed. He knew that look.
"What?" Jimin shrugged putting on an innocent face.
"You do this thing, you have this like, judgy face scenario going on" Jungkook gestured to Jimin.
Jimin tried to dismiss it with a wave of his hand. "I guess I just think it's weird that you still talk to your ex boyfriend." Jimin shrugged "It's not healthy"
"Oh, I'm sorry, and you're the expert here?" Jungkook asked with a raised brow, "You've never even had a boyfriend."
"Okay, well you've only had one, and you're completely obsessed with him, so that doesn't necessarily make you the bachelor" Jimin countered.
"Okay, one, I am not obsessed with Yugyeom." Jungkook said with a steady glare.
"Okay, so prove it" Jimin said taking a seat across from Jungkook, "Don't call him tonight." Jimin would be lying if he said he wasn't jealous of the fact that Jungkook would be going home and talking to Yugyeom for hours
"You know for someone who is quiet all the time, you sure have a lot of opinions"
"I just think, no one's ever been honest with you. They just tell you what you want to hear" Jimin smiled smugly
Jungkook opened his mouth then hesitated, "Okay fine" He bowed his head, "Be honest with me" Jungkook looked back up meeting Jimin's clear brown eyes. Eyes he had come to love looking into "Why haven't you had a boyfriend?"
Jimin paused pulling his bottom lip between his teeth "I don't know, I guess no one's ever liked me like that" Jimin shrugged simply.
"Lies" Jungkook pointed an accusing finger at Jimin, "I know for a fact that Min Yoongi asked you to the spring formal last year, and you said no."
Jimin frowned slightly, "Oh so you're keeping tabs on me now?"
Jungkook chuckled
"Come on, Park, talk to me, what happened to no secrets, fight club remember?"
Jimin dropped his eyes to his lap "Okay, umm, so love and dating..." Jimin paused "I love to read about it, and it's fun to write about, and to think about in my head but, when it's real..." Jimin trailed off again
"What? It's scary?" Jungkook questioned.
Jimin only nodded
"Why is that scary?" Jungkook asked his brows furrowing slightly
"Because, umm" Jimin shifted uneasily in his seat, "The more people you let in your life.... the more that can just walk right out"
"Like your mom, right?" Jungkook asked gently
Jimin nodded with a sad smile.
"Uh, did you know that my dad left us?"
"Yeah, that was a while ago right?" Jimin asked with a sympathetic frown.
"Two summers ago" Jungkook said glancing once again at the mostly empty glass in front of him, "He's got a new wife and kid now."
Jimin tilted his head. He'd never seen Jungkook so vulnerable before, "I'm so sorry"
"No, it's..." Jungkook waved a hand dismissively, "it's fine, it's...I don't usually talk about it, I just thought that maybe you'd understand cause...your mom...not that it is anywhere near the same thing..."
Jimin cut in, "No, it's totally fine, I completely understand" Jimin gave a small smile.
Jungkook returned it. How could Jimin be so great?
"It's hard" Jimin said then.
Jungkook shook his head, "It's whatever."
Jimin knew dismissal when he saw it, "Well we don't have to talk about it, but it's not whatever" Jimin had been there.
Before the conversation could continue down the path it had been going, Jungkook decided to backtrack a bit.
"I think it's funny, you say that you're scared of commitment and relationships, but you don't seem scared to be with me" Jungkook liked the idea that he made Jimin feel comfortable in a relationship.
"Well there's no reason to be" Jimin shrugged easily.
Jungkook felt a smile tug at his mouth, before leaning forward across the table a bit, "And why's that?"
Jimin felt his stomach drop at the once again reminder that this was all fake, "Cause we're just pretending"
Jungkook felt his heart plummet, his smile disappeared "Right, course. Park Jimin ladies and gentlemen, you can always count on him to be honest" Jungkook pushed away from the table, standing. Wow, that hurt more than it should have.
Jimin frowned in confusion, "Wait, Jungkook, are we cool?" Had he said something wrong? They were just pretending.
"Yeah, we're fine, Park." Jungkook said grabbing his jacket, "Thank you for coming to the party" Jungkook was desperate to change the subject and get rid of the horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Later
As Jimin closed his bedroom door his phone lit up with a notification. He'd been tagged on Instagram. It was a picture of him and Jungkook titled 'me and Bae', with a winky face. Jungkook never said him bae. That earned an eye roll from Jimin before responding with 'Bae? You're such a dork'.
Oh how he wished his relationship with Jungkook was real.
His phone sounded again with a response from Jungkook. It was a kissy face. Jimin smiled
