Chapter Eleven

Testing Day (2nd Day)

I look up to see Cesar Sanchez overlooking me.

I pull myself up into the control room, dim lit and high tech everywhere.

Every other screen is cameras surrounding the building. Then there are some of the storage garage building.

"I see you found your way up here." He walks up to the screens and enhances them to the point where I could see Teigan's face.

"Would you like something to drink. Tea? Coffee?"

"Water would be nice." I nod.

He gets a water bottle and hands it to me.

"So, I noticed something about that I don't think anyone else has noticed."

My heart sinks, My palms are damp, my breathing gets heavy.

"It's my device, isn't it?"

A smile grows on his face. I look down knowing my fate. People like me get eliminated. Erased from this world of no mistakes.

"Listen Klynn, I know you're unique."

He points to the screen of which are the garage building cameras. Teigan and many other of the male testers- including José and Rafael are trying to budge open the door.

Then, at the perfect moment, Cesar turns on the audio of the cameras.

"Listen up men! We are working like hell to open this door and the others aren't even trying to help us." Teigan Yells.

Many of them cheer, some just nod.

Teigan then walks to a room and takes a part of the bunk bed. It's a round metal bar. The rest follow suit.

I start to panic, Teigan can't be doing somehing wrong. Not right now, not this far into the test.

Teigan then walks into a room where people are enjoying food and talking.

"Give us the food, or come with us to help!" He yells. Many of the men go up to some of the girls and grab them by their hair.

I wince in pain, knowing their pain. Those girls, as innocent as can be.

"Listen here, I've worked way too hard for this! I deserve to eat!" She stuffs a couple of chips down her mouth.

Teigan grabs her by the hair. I turn away. Is this the man I love? The fragile hearted, yet loyal man I knew.

"Apologize. Apologize!" He yells. She shakes her head. He throws her against the wall and she falls to her knees. Rafael grabs Teigans arm and whispers into his ear.

Teigan starts to hit her with the metal part of the bunkbed. Each hit is stronger then the one before. Blood splatters everyone. She starts to bleed through her head and I think. . . I think She's dead

Cesar pats my shoulder and shakes it.
"Do you know what it said, on the board with binary on it?" He asks.

"It said, Change is achieved through peace, not rupture."

He shakes his head yes and points to the cameras.
The men and Teigan are taking the rest of the participants to work on budging the door open.

Some girls start to cry, some are filed with anger. Even some of the guys they found are joining the others rest of the guys, not to seem weak.

There are still some left in their rooms. One interesting group left is building a wall to keep them separated and safe.

"You, Klynn, are supposed to change this outcome. That is why I'm not executing you, you can change the world. You can change this."

Cesar walks over to the vent and points down to it. "You have to go back. To change."
I climb down onto the floor, take a deep breath and move down the chute.

I get down there and walk up to the girls at the door while the boys are going to other groups for more girls.

"Guys, come on lets go!" I whisper. They look back, hopefully. They all walk over to me.

"We have to get back what we deserve, peacefully."

"What's peace gonna do, Latrice just got killed because of those boys." A girl says.

"Yeah, I mean we ju-"

"Just trust me!" I say firmly.

I start to walk and they all follow. I can feel the tension in the air, the anxiousness. But we will prevail.

We finally make it to were the boys are hitting against the wall the other participants created.

"Hey!" I yell. Eveyone looks back, they all look surprised. I walk slowly up through the crowd of guys, each moving to make a pathway for me.

I finally make it to Teigan.

"What are you doing here Teigan?" I say, frustrated.

"What do you think? They don't deserve to pass if they don't do any work?! Thats why we're taking whats ours."

"Dude, you killed a girl." One guy says.

"Yeah, I don't wanna do this anymore." Another guy says.

I shake my head and scoff. "I don't know you anymore."

"You guys are all wimps, cowards." He yells.
And someone punches him, then another and another. Fist and poles go flying into the air.

I walk away, and hear the door that was once locked now opening. I run towards it and yell "Guys, Look!"

We all walk out the doors onto an island.

"Welcome to the Offshore, Participants!"
