Elliots POV
Growing up, Elliot had never resented the fact that she was called a 'latchkey' kid around the estate. Between being called a 'bastard child' and 'whores daughter' latchkey kid didn't seems to matter that much to Elliot.
She knew more than anybody that she was indeed a latchkey kid. Elliots Grandmother, before going to work at the day care, would tie a short piece of string with the door key attached to the letter box of the red front door of their Liverpool house. This way when Elliot got home from school of her small after school job, delivering mail, she could go inside to make a sandwich before Granny got home late evening. Elliot had thanked her Granny for this, this taught Elliot life skills and to not rely on other people.
Elliot didn't even hold hatred at the children in her secondary school who would call her creative nicknames such as 'Sister Elliot' or 'Jesus' little helper'. Elliot had been taught by the nuns that if she ignored the problem the problem would go away, however, Granny had taught Elliot that if there was no problem that a fight couldn't resolve, this taught Elliot to stand up for herself.
Elliots Granny had taught her many things before her passing at the age of sixty-seven, taken rather suddenly by lung cancer when Elliot was ten-years-old. That was Margaret Barnes' last lesson she taught Elliot, a lesson Elliot remembered all to well.
"No smoking, Elliot. You promise me right now that you will never smoke, or i swear to our Lord above that i will be back." Margaret had managed to splutter out between coughs.
At the ripe old age of ten Elliot had promised her Granny over and over again to never smoke. Margaret - a religious woman - had smiled, seeing a bright future for Elliot with the Sisters at St Pauls Orphanage, Elliot however did not see the same bright future.
St Pauls was in the south of England outside London in the town of Milton Keynes, far away from Liverpool and all the memories Elliot had made there.
Elliot had kicked and screamed her way into her new life of evening prayers and grace before every meal, but never resented what the nuns did for her.
Elliot didn't plan of kicking and screaming her way into her next new life, so smiled at the older-looking-man as she repeated the name that had been on her mind for a while.
"I was told that this was Jason Nash's address, am i correct?" Elliot questioned the man,now staring right at her ,presumably in shock.
"Jason who is it?" A deep male voice shouted from within the house. The man, who Elliot now assumed was Jason, didn't move. Neither did Elliot, she stared right back at the man with bated breath not moving an inch.
"Jason?" The male voice shouted again. This time he seemed to startle Jason back to reality and he realised what was happening.
"I'm- I'm Jason Nash, but I-I can't be your father i haven't seen Elizabeth in..." Jason trailed off, Elliot felt the need to confirm his questioning.
"Twenty years, she left back to England the day after you guys met and made me" Elliot said sensing the awkwardness towards the end of her sentence, Elliot now regretted not thinking this encounter over in the multiple free hours on the plane.
"Jason, who are you talking to- oh" The male voice had now come to the door, his shirtless body dripping with water,, his dark hair - also wet - was pushed back out of his eyes. The mysterious tall, dark and handsome stranger brought his beer bottle to his lips, taking a swig and smiling.
"Hey, im Toddy" His smile was contagious Elliot soon learned as she subconsciously smiled back
"Elliot" she shortly replied with a wave of her hand, showing off her newly manicured false nails.
"Todd, can you leave flirting for another time, we're going out. We'll probably be back within the hour" Jason interrupted us suddenly, grabbing his car keys and one of my bags before shutting the door behind him.
Without a work he walked towards a car Elliot assumed was his. She followed closely after grabbing her other bag. Jason opened the boot to his car for Elliot before getting into the drivers seat and starting the car.
It was silent and awkward for at least five minutes before Elliot spoke up."I know this is a surprise and that you probably want proof bu-"However,
she was quickly interrupted."No, no" Jason laughed, "its just, a shock I guess.Y'know I didn't expect it" Elliot smiled, she didn't expect to ever meet her dad, he probably never expected to have a child.
"I can speak from experience it's shocking for anybody to suddenly find out they have a family" Elliot laughed with a smile, she looked at Jason who had quite the opposite emotion.
"You don't have a family?"
Elliot believed she always had a family, whether it was her Mother or Granny watching over her or it was the nuns at the convent(even the ones she didn't like) Elliot believed she did have a family of sorts, even if it wasn't one everybody wished for.
"I did, I had my Mum and Granny but they both passed a while back" Elliot looked out of the car window not wanting to see the sympathy on Jason's face, however if she had looked she would have seen guilt in its place.
"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you, God I feel terrible, where have you been living?"he questioned guiltily as Elliot continued to look away.
"I've been living at a convent with nuns, they run an orphanage in Milton Keynes. It small but helps a lot of young girls" Elliot replied, now looking at Jason's guilty face.
"I should have been there, I should have known about you, I'm so sorry, I jus-"
"It's fine, really. It wasn't to bad." Elliot lied to help Jasons state of mind.
"But, thats why I came to find you, you deserve to know that you're a father" At this Jason smiled sadly he now had three kids, he was missing out on all of their lives - and that was going yo change.
"Elliot, my new first born, do you want to meet your siblings?"
