Surprised To See You

Chapter 4-
"I thought i'd never see you again, Mae"

I was still holding my brother, it's been at least 10 minutes. He finally took a few deep breaths, and wiped at his face, letting my body go. 

"Who got you to come?" He asked softly, standing up, and walking into his bathroom. 

"Mom called me." I sighed.

" Thanks for comin, regardless." He gave me a soft but  fake smile.

" You're welcome Op, I brought Nova." He seemed to get a little happier and threw the hand towel he was using to dry his face back into the bathroom, and walked out the door with me following behind him, shutting his door. 

"Is Jax here?" I asked softly and he nodded.

"Working the garage today, he probably already saw you and Nov" I groan. Passing the motorcycle that sat in the display area. It was Jax's dads. Who died getting hit by a semi and dragged a mile or something before he died. We walked out the clubhouse, and i headed to the office while Op went into the garage. I stopped when i heard a voice, Jax's voice. 

" Whos kid?" I didn't mean to eavesdrop, i mainly wanted him to leave the office so i could get Nova out of there. 

"She's Esmae's Daughter" Gemma responded and i could hear a gasp.

" Wait, Esmae's here? Now? " Gemma didn't say anything, when i came walking up, she got silent. Jax has his back facing me. 

"Mommy" Nova ran to me, grabbing my hand. 

"hey baby" I say. " Why dont you go into the garage and find uncle opie? he's waiting for your bear hugs." She ran out the office and towards the garage, which made me smile. When I looked back at the mother and son, they were now both facing me. Jax looked like he'd seen a ghost.

"Cute kid" Was all Jackson managed to blurt out, and scratch the back of his neck. He was nervous. I don't know why he would be. It's been five years. I moved on, and from what Op told me, he's got two kids. One from Wendy, an old crow eater, and Tara, the same woman he cheated on me with. Funny thing that is.

"Thanks, but my husband takes all the credit" His face dropped a little.

"well I should get back to work, see you round mae" He walked out the door that led straight into the garage. Where I could hear Nova giggling at her uncle.

"That went well" I mumbled to myself but I guess Gemma heard it.

"Don't let Jackson fool you, he missed you, still does." I rolled my eyes.

"Cant miss something you never had. He was never mine, Gemma." And with that, I walked away.

"Novaley, come on. Lets go. I bet you're hungry and we can go to our hotel, and go swimming!" I beam with excitement and so does she.

"Bye bye Uncle Opie!" She kissed his cheek and jumped off his lap, and took off towards the car.

"What time is the funeral?" I asked Op.

"Thursday, 2pm" I nod, and with a soft smile.

"Okay, im sure she'll drag me back here. Hey, wheres pop?" I asked and he shrugged.

"probably out with Tig and Juice on a run." I nod. And with that I left the clubhouse.

"Hi, im Julie and i'll be you server today. What can I get you to drink?" A blonde haired, blue eyed, short tattoo girl, was our server. The same girl that was my best friend in middle school. But since I have Nova, I didn't say anything.

"She'll have a kids cup of pepsi, and I'll have a dr. pepper." I say softly and she smiles.

"i'll give you a minute to choose what you would like to have for dinner, and i'll be right back with your drinks" She closed her notepad and walked away. I smiled at Nova.

" You like it here?" I asked her and she smiled.

"I do. Why did you move away?" She asked me, deciding to pick up the crayons and color on her placemat that Julie , the server had given her.

"Well, mommy got her heart broken. Plus if I wouldn't have left, I wouldn't have met daddy, and had you." She nodded.

"I like the guys, Jax is really nice." I sighed. Jax always had the affect on children.

"Yeah, he is." I say, Julie walked up to our booth and set our drinks down.

"here ya go Mae, What would you like?" She pulled out her notepad and let me know she remembered me.

" I want a bacon sandwich with fries, and she'll have the kids meal chicken tenders with macaroni " Nova nodded at my answer and handed the server her menu. Julie took mine and walked away with a smile.

" Mommy?" Nova asked softly and I hummed at her.

"I wish daddy was here" She sighed, and started coloring again and I didn't know how to respond to that, so I left it alone.

"UNCLE OPIE" Nova screamed, and I turned around and saw Opie and Jax walking into the pool area. I sighed, me being in a pink bikini, made me uncomfortable around my Ex. So I got out, and wrapped a towel around myself.

"Be careful please Nova" I say as she starts jumping in and climbing out to show Op she can do it.

"Hi, Esmae" Jax said and all I did was nod and smile back. His blue eyes looked at me, and he began to smile.

"Hi, Jackson" I went back to watching Novaley in the pool.

"I thought i'd never see you again, Mae" Jax spoke softly, his voice full of hurt.

" I wasn't ever planning on coming back." I spoke truthfully.

"Im glad you did." And he got up, and went to talk to Nova.

"Hey, Mae, can Nova come over to my house for the night and stay with Ellie and Kenny?" I thought about it for a moment.

" Sure, Do you need me to bring her?" He shook his head.

"Nah, I brought the car." I nodded.

" Nova, lets go get some clothes on, and pack a bag." I grabbed our pool bag and put it over my shoulder, holding out my hand, and nova ran and grabbed it. I looked at the guys.

"Coming boys?" They both nodded and stood up. following us into the hotel.

I got Nova dressed, and packed her a bag, and walked her out to Op's car. And made sure he had a booster seat at least, and kissed her cheek and told her i'd pick her up tomorrow. I said goodbye to my daughter and to Opie.

"So, up for a drink?" He asked and I glanced at him.

"Sure, i'll go get ready. Wait here."
